State Senator Dave Zien announced the new concealed carry bill for Wisconsin.

The bill is similar to last year's bill, but has some striking differences.

Because the county sheriffs complained so much last year about the bill being an "unfunded mandate" (which it was not; they would have made a lot of money), the task of running background checks will go to the DOJ, the state troopers, or possibly even a private firm. I'm sure that the suggestion of a private firm is to get other state agencies like DOJ to start whining that they'll miss out on the $$$.

Also, the fee has been lowered from $113 to $75.

Most of the amendments that were tacked on last year, such as restrictions on where a permit holder can carry, have been stripped from the new bill.

Interesting that the sheriffs are already complaining.
