Well, she bought the 870 Rem youth 20ga I spoke about in another thread. She likes it but she wants a blue stock like she saw on a Winchester semi-auto at Gander Mountian. It was a metalic blue if you know what gun I am talking about.

Here gun came with the new laminated wood stock and I think the grain is stunning. I can't understand why she doesn't like it. It is one of the best looking wood stocks I have seen on a shotgun for the price range.

Anyway, where should I look for a blue metalic stock set for the youth 870 in 20ga? If not blue, are there any other colors? She will go for black if there is nothing else but I wanted to look around for her.

The the stock was a crappy wood one like they used to put on these guns, I would just paint it. I don't want to paint the laminated wood stock she has. I will just sell it and recoup some of the money for the new stock.

Get a good used stock and have her get with the local Community College, Ladies she hangs with, Mom & Pop Paint store ...etc , Paint the Wood the color she wants.

Hint: You ain't gonna get it right. :)

Boyd's might have some used stocks.

THR members of TEEM SEEL, Chairborne Ranger, NinjaBusters ant other "groups we can't talk about" - might happen to have a old fashioned stock laying around they will let go of.

Wimmin, bless their little pea-pickin't hearts, giving fellers fits is such a hobby for them. - Tennessee Ernie Ford.

My skeet-shootin' sweetheart is hand painting poison ivy on the wood her "toy", an 1100 .410. I'm going to try to clear coat it with something that might keep the acrylic from rubbing off too bad. At least I was able to find an old stock set for it before she cut loose with the custom job.

At first blush there's just soooo many things wrong with this, but hey - it's her gun. She DID wait for me to find wood to replace the beautiful set that came on the Sporting model, and she didn't want to do it to her Citori Golden Clays!

Whether it's hot rod metal flake blue, or poison ivy, if it keeps her happy and out bustin' clays, I'm all for it.

This is not a new request, and not just something Ladies do.

Teal Blue painted wood stock on a young ladies .22 rifle.
NASCAR on a young man's .22 rifle.

Neon Yellow, Painted in Tie-Dye, paints, that show up under Black-Light.
I look good in this single shot .410.

Serious Competition, I mean Serious.
Brothers from Oklahoma , Indians, and part of a tight bunch I knew.

Painted their guns. Absolutely breathtaking, with Tribal Colors.

I am talking serious competition, and we had our 10% Physical Game down pat.
90% of shooting is Mental.
If we could screw up someone else's Mental Game...not our problem.
Their fault for not keeping focused.

Now two Indian Bros, These guns, such as the 1100s for example, and a dab of paint on their face.
I had to hold my grin...we that knew and shot with them did, but the rest of squad would get wide-eyed, step back and mess up their mindset.

Miss the first bird, maybe second, maybe even blow the first Station.
Great, no worry about them in the shoot off later...

"White Man wear no war paint" - they would tease me
"Got Beef Jerkey in Pocket" - I would quip back.

Krieghoff with Mickey Mouse
Peraxxi MX8 with Tweety Bird.

This couple was out of town for a shoot.
Needed new socks, forgot to pack socks.
So the best they could do was Mickey Mouse for him, Tweety Bird for her at Midnight.

They shot well, very well. New Good Luck Charms.
So they put these stickers on these guns...and wore Mickey Mouse / Tweety Bird Socks at events.

I felt left out one tourney, I stuck a RoadRunner on the side of a Win Custom SX1.
Hell of a Squad, Mickey, Tweety Tribal Colors and RoadRunner.

Five Person Squad and we had as much fun as the folks making fun of us, or gasping at the thought folks would do such a thing.

"Dead bird" - Ref
"Do me a favor if you would, say "Dead Cat" for me today" - Lady with the Perazzi and Tweety Bird

Five folks ran 100 straight.
"Thats a lot of dead cats" - Puller

kgriggs8....Yeah, HER gun. Let her [ahem] 'customize' it the way SHE likes....

sm, always enjoy your posts. Even the humorous ones contain at least a bushel basket of Life Lessons.

(Particularly, if you can mess with the other guys mindset, without losing your own focus, you have a better chance of getting the blue ribbon, 'stead of the honorable mention certificate.) :D

PJR,
Not my thing either.
Then again I don't care for synthetic stocks.

At least that gun has blued barrels.
To me a O/U with synthetic stocks, stainless barrels is ...just downright wrong.

foghornl,

There was a time before the Great Equipment Race.
Some of us saw it coming.
Mentors shared with us about folks , and how some even back when where trying to "buy skill and targets". So we were aware of such folks.
Mentors "hunted" for such folks, and "hustled" money away from such folks.

Kids, have always been our future, Ladies have always been a part of firearms in My Life.

These "Fella's" strutting around with egos, new guns, talking crap , not giving kids the time of day, and talking down ladies...
Yeah, I, WE hunted them too.

Oh yeah, some Low Spark of High Heeled boy with a gun he has shot little, bragged lots on, disrespected a lady, and kid...we put the money down, put up or shut up...
I have thoroughly enjoyed bashing a Benelli I won.

We had fun painting a gun for a kid, we still do.
Kids gotta right to be kids

Ladies got a right to be ladies. Pretty, Cute, or whatever is term they want to call their gun is fine by me.

Mental Game.
$500 to shoot 50 targets.
Don't miss, because there is a C Note for every target you hit in the shoot off.
Bonus if you win the shoot off.

See that little girl in bandages over there? She has been burned, Money is for her.
Backers putting up the money.
Fella all full of himself, fancy gun, bragging, we know he slaps his wife, stole his kids college fund for that fancy gun.

I drop the most pitiful looking reload you ever did see.
I had asked permission to "shoot two".
Electrical tape on that reload I dropped.
Fumbling to get a second shell into the gun...and the wax did not get all the poor crimp closed and shot spills onto the ground.

I finally get two of the most awful looking reloads into the gun, and my gun shoots dowrange twice .

Low Spark of High Heeled boy got new Factory Shells, latest greatest shell "supposed to be used".

He is grinning, he making fun of me, my buddy, and buddy's daughter, on this squad.

I lead off, and he has never seen Station 1 shot so fast.
Daughter repeats what I do, daddy the same.
LSOHHB drops a bird, right off the bat.

"They shoot too fast, messes up my concentration" - he tells the puller.
"Pick up the tempo or take it on home" - puller says.

LSOHHB drops 4 birds the first box, he walks off, he is beat by the first box.
Good, that was an easy $500 for the little girl.

Then "we" get serious, we had some serious money to make, and we did.

Little girl said "Angels saved me" speaking of the night of the fire.
I have no problem, nor did my buddy, or his daughter, wearing a Angel Pin, and using Pink towels to wipe hands...some cartoon character on these Pink Towels.

Messed up the mindset of others...we play for keeps, for many reasons.

Focus on the target, not the equipment

I think that my wife might like that stock in the pic if it were plain blue. I know she doesn't want flames or stripes all over it.

I saw a blue Speedfeed over on CDNN but it wasn't for a 20ga youth. It was only $29.99 for a compleat set. That is a good price for a Speedfeed if anyone is looking for such a thing. They have other stocks as well.

You could strip the finish, and use a blue stain, then refinish.

That way she gets her blue, and you still get to see the nice laminate.

I bought a set of that blue furniture my last order to CDNN- been thinking about using a spare bolt to turn into a nonfunctional dummy and then make up a full-weight, functioning but non-firing 870 trainer to use with those orange plastic dummy shells. Can't run dummy rounds through a Red Gun after all.

It's good solid furniture and is Smurf blue all the way through. 8^) 12 ga. only though, IIRC.

sm, looking at that gun I am not entirely sure that's a synthetic stock. It looks to me like wood that was painted.

I know Perazzi sometimes puts drab wood on their guns but even the worst piece of Perazzi lumber doesn't deserve that treatment.;)

Painted guns :barf:

When it comes to keeping women and kids interested and invested in the shooting sports, YOU DO WHATEVER IT TAKES, PERIOD.

If Mrs. Dual showed even a tiny spark of interest in the shooting sports, but only if I got her a Barret M82 Duracoated in pink, you damn well bet I'd get her one...

I'm with AJ Dual...what ever it takes to keep them wanting to shoot.

My GF thought the $700 Beretta I bought her would look good "Camo Pink".

The things we do to keep'em happy

At first I was like most of you when I sw all these wild colors on the shotguns but some of them are starting to grow on me. I still hate camo with a passion but some of the other colors are cool. I don't mind the non-traditional camo patterns and colors like the pink one above. I am not saying I like it, I just don't mind it as much as the normal camo.

I saw a zebra stripe one on E-bay. http://cgi.ebay.com/Remington-870-1...4QQihZ001QQcategoryZ73957QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I'm thinking a tiger stripe might look pretty cool. Why not do something cool like this to an 870 or other pump? It is not like it is a fine OU that you would be making look bad. It is just an 870 so have some fun.

Find an airbush artist ... at the mall, hobby shop or whatever. I think many of them would love to take a break from their "usual" stuff to do something like this!

Lock and load,

Rusty

Judging from the price of a new SpeedFeed stock $70-90, the airbrush idea sounds kind of tempting. My only worry is, will the paint be durable? I don't want it chipping and scratching and looking horrible after only a few uses.
