Wiley X Saber Glasses For Shooting ???

I saw for sale online a really nice pair of Wiley X Saber glasses with a Slate-tinted lens.

I need a new pair of glasses for OUTDOOR range use, and I was thinking of buying these Wiley X Saber glasses.

I already own a pair Wiley X glasses, but WITHOUT the Slate lens. I think the Slate-tinted lens would be better for outdoor range use than my current lens color.

Anyone use the Wiley X Saber glasses with the Slate lens, and what do you think of them?



The picture below is what they look like except the Wiley X Saber glasses I am interested in have a Slate (gray) lens.

I bought a pair of slate lens Sabers last year and I like them very much. They aren't as dark as you might think and are perfect for outdoors. I even wear mine bird hunting sometimes especially if there are more than a couple of us going and there is snow on the ground. I'm thinking of buying a pair of amber tinted ones for overcast/cloudy days.

I thought I've give my 2 cents worth, but don't want it to come off as a sales pitch.

I've got some older style Wiley X models, and we (the company) looked at the Wiley X line (including the Sabres) as a possible addition to our store. Although I liked them very much, we prefer the ESS ICE Shield. It's a more versatile pair of glasses that comes with interchangeable lenses, and will accept a prescription lens insert. In our humble opinion, we've yet to find a better pair of glasses for the money. You can read more about shooting glasses:

I have a pair of Wiley glasses similar to what you're looking at. Good glasses that fit my face well and didn't obscure sighting when shooting through a scope when slung up.

But on two occasions the frame broke right at the pivot screw (I store them in a hard case, it was plastic fatigue that took its toll). Wiley replaced the frame the first time in about 4 week (for a $5 "handling" fee). Couple months later, the frame broke at the other pivot and was sent back for the second time (with a second "handling" fee). This was about 10 weeks ago and I'm still waiting for it to come back. When/if it does, the glasses will be relegated to backup/loading bench status as I don't consider them durable enough for frequent use.

gunnersalley, thanks for the link. Very timely as I'm tired of using my backups and am in the market for a DURABLE set of quailty shooting glasses.

My pleasure. My partner and I both wear the ESS glasses, and found them to be very durable. The lenses have done very well also. Last week, my partner's ESS took a hit from an ejected .45 casing. No scratches or marks on the lens at all.
