Will Don Hume 721OT for XD 45-4" work with XDM 45-3.8"??

They don't make a 721 O.T. for the XDM 45 3.8. So I called Don Hume today and asked the CS rep. if the 721 OT for the XD 45 4" would work with the XDM 3.8? Her answer was "probably". She also said they have no plans of tooling up to make a 721 OT for the XDM 45 3.8

So, do any of you guys (or gals) know if the XDM 45 3.8 will work in the 721 O.T. made for the XD 45 4". If so, how is the fit? I don't have the gun yet or else I'd track down the holster and try it for myself.

Appreciate any help you may have to offer.

Do you already own the Hume 721 OT, or are you just trying to find a compromise holster?

Why not just buy a holster designed for the pistol you want?

I know High Noon makes holsters for the XDm45 3.8

I do already own Don Hume 721 O.T. for my Kimber Compact CDP II, along with a M.S. VM-II and a Brommeland Max Con - V. Although the 721 O.T. is a much lesser priced holster, I like them and am not looking for a compromise by any means. IMHO, I find they're an extremely well made holster for the price, and a viable ccw option based on particular clothing demands etc. so would like to get one for the 3.8 if possible.

I'm not saying a Don Hume holster is a compromise holster. I'm saying a holster for an SA XD 4" used for an SA XDM 3.8" is a compromise holster no matter who the maker is.

Understood JTQ. I'm just starting to look at XDM's and aren't that familiar w/ them yet. But I know that with some holsters, mostly hybred types like the Super Tuck etc., but also with some Pancake styles as well, that some similar model guns will fit pretty well into holster's designed for a different gun.

I'm just wondering if this might be the case with the 721 ot for the XD-4 and the XDM 3.8.
I really like the 721 when I need to carry OWB, and would like to get another if I can make it work.

I'd guess you'd have the most success with the lower priced leather, like the Hume models, as they are generally less "fitted" than the higher end leather products. As a for instance, Galco sells the exact same model number Avenger holster for the 1911 Government model and the Browning Hi-Power. Sparks, on the other hand, will make a different holster for the two pistols.

I'd think you'd have the least success with a quality kydex product as they are generally very closely fitted to the pistol for which they are designed. So I might be cautious guessing the Crossbreed style would work. On the other hand a BlackHawk SERPA may work since they rely on that finger lock for retention rather than the close fitment of the holster.

While I'm not much of an XD guy, I do know the slides of the XD and XDM have different contours. I'd think that would make a difference even more so than just the barrel length.

I know holster buying can get expensive, and you have a couple of quality IWB's listed, so you certainly understand that, but compared to the cost of the pistol (are XDM's $600+ now?), a holster specifically designed for your gun isn't that much of an expense.

Of course, if the Hume 721 OT doesn't work out, you're only out about $50, and the XD is a pretty popular pistol, and you should be able to sell it pretty easily.

The Don Hume holsters are VERY fitted. They appear to be wet-molded directly to the firearm's shape, even incorporating slide cuts on guns that have them. I would definitely not consider them a lower-end holster. I've used one of their Makarov holsters for years now to carry my Polish P-64 (I've carried my Makarov in it, but the P-64 is just smaller), and it's held up well with no signs of wear. They're cheap, but definitely not low-end.

That said, it SHOULD work, as the guns are fundamentally the same size and shape, and the controls and bits that stick out are all the same. The only thing to be concerned with are the sights. If the XDM's sights are more bulky than the ones on a regular XD, it probably won't fit.
