I don't know . I've really tried to talk my self into it , but it boils down to a safty issue or lack of . Would Springfield add a thumb safty just for jibjab :confused: Being a 1911 sort of guy I feel naked with out my thumb safty :eek:
I would'nt feel comfortable carrying a revolver cocked , and don't think packin a XD in condition 1 or 0 is that different.
 
If your safety has saved your hide on a 1911 or any other pistol, you best not carry. You are pulling the trigger yikes!
 
i would say there are better choices out there than the xd, but that is just my opinion. I held one before and i have to say it has horrible balance to top heavy, but if it feels good for you get it.

if you need a safety on a handgun to feel better, not because of anything else, then that isn't real cool. the space between your ears and your trigger finger is all the safety you need!
 
I carry my XD subcompact without fear. Under what realistic circumstance is the trigger lever safety going to be properly pressed, the grip safety properly pressed, and then the trigger full pressed back?

I can see the benefit of a thumb safety, I really do, and I hope to own a 1911 soon. But as far as a manual-safety being a reason to carry or not carry... ask yourself, why would your XD's trigger be pressed without you intending to fire? Have you ever found the trigger of your 1911 being pressed against your will?

Serious questions.
 
I agree they are poorly balanced.

I had an XD9 service model, and it balanced poorly, and was HUGE for a 15 shot 9mm. I abandoned it for the 9mm HiPower, which has served me well for years. I will maybe try the XD45 Tactical model, as it's dimensions are not terrible for what it does, and I am open to new ideas.
I did get really bad trigger slap from the XD, and didn't enjoy shooting it for long sessions because of this. All my .45ACP guns are single stack, and it never hurts to have more guns.
Does anyone make an extended threaded barrel for the XD45? I'd like to get one and supress it, maybe.

:rolleyes: I wonder if there has been a rise in the number of accidental discharges because of Glock type actions ? I would think someone has the numbers on this.
 
Love my XD's. For both carry and competition the "Croatian Sensations" have served me perfectly. Pick a modern, big brand gun maker. If possible, rent as many as you can at your range. Shoot at least 100 rounds through each of them. One size doesn't fit all. Your going to love one of them. Spend your money there.

Why even look at the XD if the 1911 does everything thing you want?

The XD is a fine gun, but it's not for everyone.

If you have to talk yourself into one than that problay means you shouldn't get one. i love my xd's and they are perfect for me and i knew so the first time i held one, and especially after i shot my service model for the first time. but they might not be right for you.
 
XD-9 subcompact --- one incredibly nice-shooting gun, for me. Friend has it .40, and he'd never part with it. I don't know about the 4" and up models, but the 3" is neat.

I never shot one i have only held them, and i din't like the way they feel, all the weight is concentrated at the top, maibe it shoots really good, maibe i'll try it one day, but from just holding them it seems to me that they are not balanced at all.

A loaded 15 round magazine has a way of changing that perception...
 
XD Fun Gun

I have to say that my XD-45 Tactical is one fun gun. It has been reliable and accurate out of the box, which is more than I can say about my SIG GSR Revolution. The 13-round mag requires some discipline, though. After shooting 7 or 8-round mags in a 1911, I was startled when I first shot the XD. It reminded me of the saw, "Load on Sunday and shoot all week." This SAO semi-auto has a huge double stack mag. The recoil is rather soft compared to other .45ACPs I have. Though the trigger action is OK, I intend to send to send my gun to Canyon Creek for a trigger action job. It is so reliable that I am comfortable to use it for home defense right along with my revolvers. The grip is the most comfortable I've held in a semi-auto. This Croatian melted bowling ball is the first Tupperware gun I've owned, but it is a keeper for me.
 
jibjab, with the XD you need a good holster that covers the trigger. Unless you have the grip safety depressed and pull the trigger it isn't going to fire. The trigger also has more takeup than a 1911. I don't carry but I have shot pistol matches and with my kydex holster it hasn't been a problem. Mark
