Will we ever see a State try to secede again?

Given the immigration and birth rate of the Hispanic population in the Southwest I wouldn't rule it out.

To secede with success would be surprising.:p

The federal government frowns on that sort of thing.
 
I would

bottom line is, those folks left Mexico & Central America to come to the US. They may send the money back home to support the folks, but they don't seem to have any desire to move back at all.

Besides, Chicano Identity Politics is an illusion...the Pueto Ricans, Costa Ricans, Columbians, Hondurans, etc, etc, no way want to suddenly become Mexicans....

Suceed? Well Cali is not doing so hot.
Secede? Dang I wish they would. Take their little blue states and run off to form a crime ridden utopia and then blame it on all the guns in the red states. Hey waitaminute, they do that now!

The last secession:
The bad news: It strengthened the union.
The good news: It strengthened the union.

The fact that we have to live with is ,that right cause or not(See location, figger it out), the outcome made states rights forever subordinate and helped create the Federal 800lb gorilla we have today sitting in all our statehouses.
The benefit is that I firmly believe that if secession had suceeded :D we would have seen a "balkanization" effect, everytime some state got its knickers wadded we would fracture into smaller and smaller groups. We woulda become a bunch of miserable little countries or confederations and probably even France coulda come back and had their way with us.

I wish we could peacefully go back to less Federal and more state Government/power without the S word popping up, but I do believe the Gorilla intends to stick around.

When the Northeast tried it a Southern President threatened to hang them all. When the South tried it to preserve their "right" to own slaves, a Yankee army pounded them.

When the silly Socialists in this movement try it, I hope they meet the same fate as Johnny Reb!:cool:
 
I sort of welcome a Civil War pitting the leftists against the righties. Why you ask? Because the majority of Leftists don't own guns! :p :D :neener:
