Wilson or Rock River Arms?

I've been looking at the Wilson Professional and the RRA Elite Commando. Anyone here have an opinion on which one is the better choice? and why?
 
Other than they are waaay overpriced? No. Seriously, you could buy two Springer GI's, a nice stainless, compact, and all sorts of goodies for the price you'd pay on one wilson.

But if you are getting one in that price range you have to throw the Les Baers in there too...
 
They are both very nice guns...the Wilson Professional is a brand new model, not even available to handle yet. It does look very sweet though. With the RR Elite Commando you can specify more what you would like, perhaps has more custom possibilities, but the wait for one is very long.
 
I have shot Wilsons and cannot find any reason for price. They work, everytime. The Energizer bunny of 1911s. They live up to their reputation. The money is still a lot to spend. The RRA 1911 Elite Commando IS the ultimate "have it your way" 1911. If I had the extra money, the time and the attitude, I would buy Rock River.
 
All else being equal, I'd rather have a comparably priced RRA over a Wilson... But if you're thinking of ordering one... last I heard, RRA was at least at 14 months and that's what they were quoting, actual times would likely be a bit longer. With a Wilson, at least a widely available model, would generally take a matter of days or weeks at the most.

Regardless of brand preference, not being able to get a gun until late 2005 might put some folks off. On the other hand, you can send in $200 now to get your name on the list at RRA and pay as you go until your gun is ready to ship and just buy a Colt NRM to carry between now and then. ;)

This is not really helping him. The question was Wilson or RRA. SA is not even in the same league. Think SA will guarantee accuracy? How much manual labor is included in an SA? Think the QC at SA is the same at either. Sure, for $400 SA is s nice gun, but it's apples and oranges.

I'd go for the RRA because you can spec it out to what you want. The finish on these are just amazing and I like the clean looks of the RRA. No unnecessary rollmarks or logos. And yes, you will pay dearly for it. So what? If you can afford it, do it. But if you don't want to wait, you kind of have to go with the Wilson then. Not a bad choice either.

Okay seriously if I was filthy rich, and could rationalize getting a 1911 like that it would probably be an RRA. I know that have one guaranteed to shoot 1 1/2" groups @ 25 yards.

But I'm suggesting Springfield because he could have a gun for every scenario. Going to a BBQ? Grab the stainless. Need a CCW? You have the compact. Then a couple Mil spec or GI's thrown in for good measure.
And seriously, who would spend that much on a guns and actually shoot it?

Lot's of people I know shoot their Baer's, RRA's, and Browns. I don't know anyone who doesn't. Why would you not shoot it? They don't guarantee 1.5" @ 50 yards not to shoot.
 
To each his own I guess. I see the handgun as a defensive weapon. And just can't bring myself to drop that much on one handgun. I guess I am more of a rifle guy, and would rather invest that money into a SIG 55X, or another HK.

Still all said and done I'd go with an RRA given the choices. These guys are tight, have learned from the best there is, and have been running their own business for what 8 years now? I was very impressed with what they did on the trigger group in my AR. They also also have the confidence to stick with what they know, which is 1911's and .223 AR's.
 
My bad... when I placed my order in, I was quoted 14 months and just a couple months after that, folks that had placed orders 12 months prior were still being told there would be another two months or so.

And while I admit I haven't been keeping up with RRA, in the recent past (year to two years ago) wasn't Chuck the only guy that did finish work in the 1911s? Has that changed or is the demand just down? Or is demand for their ARs down allowing Chuck more time for the 1911s?

Either way, I handled a couple two years ago and was very impressed. I handled three at the last gunshow I attended and was equally impressed. Based on these two experiences, the quality has not suffered in any visible manner and I'd still jump on one.
