win 231 flows so well thru my powder measure on my hornaday progressive. Extremely repeatable loading 9mm and 45 ACP

I bought a couple of pounds of win 748 with 223 in mind.. IMR 4064 is what i have been using for .223 - can't say it meters nearly as consistently

anyone on here use W748? does it flow the same as W231?

thx

25.8 grains of 748 pushing a Dogtown 50 grain turned out to be the accuracy load for my old Rem 788. I'm setting up to run about 500 of those in the next few days on my 550.

good info

i have 1200 pcs of brass headed my way and then i am going to put a dent in the 2K box of varmint grenade bullets i've had stashed.. and the 2 lbs of W 748 i found the other day..

other than some 06, 270 and 264 win mag rifle brass, i've loaded up everything in the shop the last couple of months and have only fired 20 shots while checking sight in and a few game animals.

ready to shoot..

W748 is a fairly small ball powder, so it should meter just fine in any measure. Better than W-231. It will meter a lot better than 4064.

W748 will measure great. I like loading with W231 for .38spl, WST for .40s&w, and .45acp. I have also picked up some 748 for load development.

H335, AA2230, and AA2200 are also good .223 Ball powders that flow very well like W748. The AA2230, and AA2200 are actually true tiny little balls that will roll around. They are very easy to measure on a Dillon or Hornady measure.

Ww 748

25 Grains of 748 behind a 64 Grain Winchester PP is a deadly accurate load in my Savage M 11. It meters perfectly in my
RCBS measure.

I have a pound of Winchester 780 Supreme any idea what this powder is used for?
Hodgdon lists 34 or 35 cartridges on their load data site which use Supreme 780 ranging from the 243 Win to the 416 Rigby. I'm not willing to copy them all here but if you tell us what you load for that would narrow it down. (or you can check the Hodgdon site) http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp

As ArchAngel pointed out, there is a good bit of data for it. Most of the cartridges it's suitable for are magnum, short magnum, or other cartridges that have a large capacity relative to their bore diameter. Also, don't get too used to using it unless you can find a large amount of it rather soon. Many online retailers have posted that Hodgdon announced that sometime early this year they'll no longer be packaging/distributing W780. There may or may not be another company that packages the same powder under a different name (I'm not aware of any). It is possible since not all powder companies actually manufacture what they're selling, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. Besides, there's plenty of other suitable powders for the calibers that W780 works in.

I didn't hear W780 was going to be discontinued. I'm surprised because there are only 3 rifle powders in the Winchester line. With all the newer "magnum type powders" now out there a slow powder is a necessity in a powder line.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I load for .243,7-08,270,30-06 and 25-06. I have a load for .270 I will NOT change but the others I haven't set any loads in stone so I'm open to suggestions on using W780
