Go to www.idpa.com for a shot at winning this firearm and help out burn victim Ross Carter. The site lists all the features of this "one-of-a-kind firearm.

He runs Carter Custom. I had trouble opening the idpa site earlier too. The American Handgunner cover gun for Sept/Oct was donated by Outdoor Channel host Michael Bane. Mr. Bane talks about Ross Carter's accident and all that went into making of the firearm. Mr Bane is a long time friend of Carter. The article was titled "The Best Gun I Never Owned". The idpa site has all the features of the firearm listed. I bought my chance yesterday. Pass it on to other sites you frequent please. Seems like a good cause. Added, the site opened fine for me just now!

Mr. Carter is the gunsmith who built the gun for Michael Bane, a wriiter for American Handgunner. The gun was almost finished when Carter's new house exploded and he was engulfed in flame and burned severely. The writer has decided to sell $25 chances on the pistola for the benefit of the smith.

All the info is in the Sept/Oct American Handgunner and the raffle info is also at www.WilsonCombat.com.

The article said the reason for the explosion left investigators puzzled. Carter was going to use a soldering iron and was heating it up and then BOOM!
Can you get American Handgunner in Israel? That would provide more info than I can.

Micro, the article that ACP referenced and as he stated, doesn't give evidence to what caused the fire. I'm a Safety Inspector by trade and wondered myself. I guess, if the investigators knew they would have come out with the cause. Again, the investigation, at least at the time of the article, listed cause as unknown. I hope all of you 1911 fans give this gun a look. Carter and Bane wanted it "to be the best of the best". I'm not saying it is, but two gun guys thought it could be and you have a chance to own it. I took mine!:) The photos in AH are great!

i've got a Para in Ross's shop as i type this to get a few things done to it....when i saw the Long slide raffle i just had to send in my 25 bucks....DICK

I remember reading about the accident right after it occured. I think he was soldering something on a red dot sight and overheated the sight's battery. Battery exploded. I'd assume it came in contact with some other accelerant to cause as much damage as it did. I believe that his wife was also badly burned.

I received a nice e-mail from Mr. Carter thanking me for posting about the raffle. No, I don't know the man.

Beauty of a gun

I've ordered my four tickets for Mr Carter's fine custom. I've seen a couple of his customs. Very impressive, and among some of the finest custom work I've seen.

I just wish I had a few more bucks to put in the pot. Unfortunately I am all to familiar with having major medical problems and no insurance.
