Spent a wonderful afternoon teaching a few new shooters to shoot shotguns in a pasture with battery powered trap (which rules). Anyway after about 80 or so shots the 1200 starting getting quite hard to cycle, near the rear of the stroke. I could run it forcefully but the 14 year old that was shooting it was having a hard time. It was cleaned and lubed recently. I will clean it of course but any ideas of what to pay attention to would be welcome.

My sister in law had never fired a gun before (and was terrified of them) and took to it like a duck to water. I started her on a 20 gauge 1300 and then she tried a stoeger 12 gauge pump and then my Franchi 48 AL which she preferred to my surprise. She was hitting about 3 out of 5 after only a few minutes' instruction. What a hoot!

First thing is to take the gun down and give it a good cleaning. Check for anything that may be hindering the slide rods in the guide chanels. You may have picked up something like a pice of vegetation or shell particle that's causing the problem but most likely its just lack of lubrication and powder residue accumulation.

If you have trouble disassembling the 1200 check the link below which takes you to Youtube videos that may help.

Take gun outside and spray with WD40. Use the red plactic tube so the pressure helps remove dirt and gummy old oil. Work the action and spray again. (Please no debate on WD40 Ty) Let drain, wipe dry. For storage, a cloth with Break Free CLP for the outside. Hoppes #9 down the bore, then CLP. Very little CLP lube is needed.

Will do, thanks. BTW I actually made a couple of those videos (jeffshootsstuff). :)

I love these pics of my SIL shooting my 12 gauge Franchi AL48 with the hull in the air. she had never fired a gun in her life and was terrified of them.

After 10 minutes she was busting clays 3 out of 5 times and loving it!

My daughter did well with the 20 gauge also. She won the Annie Oakley shootoff/round robin we did with 4 cousins.

That's funny. I guess it's a good idea to put the shotgun (or any other firearm) in a case when at the range since action open is the "safe" condition for guns on the range bench. Those little .22 cases bounce all over the place.
