I just received a NIB unfired Winchester 190 in 22 lr. it has the original box and all papers along with an in mounted weaver scope that was part of a package. I believe the rifle is from the 60's or 70's. I'm wondering if it's worth anything or if I should use it to train my son to shoot in a few years.

I've got two 190's, both scoped. I use 'em mostly for hunting rabbits and spruce grouse, with a little plinking mixed in over the years. They're plenty accurate for those tasks, and I've never had any problems with either of them.

It's true that they don't have much collector value at this point, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Because if you're looking for a reliable .22 rifle to actually use, the 190 is as good a choice as any. Keep it. Use it. Teach the boy how to shoot with it. The memories you make will be worth more than the rifle ever will.
