Winchester 22 LR Ruptured Case

I've not measured the case for comparison. I will though, when I have a moment. I don't fire much in the way of shorts in the revolver, and I keep it pretty clean. I give it a good cleaning every 200-500 rounds, if not sooner, but I wipe the cylinder and bore out with a Rem Oil soaked patch, after nearly every time I fire it.

I do look up the chambers, but I don't have a bore scope to look. I wish I'd thought to mark which chamber it happened in.

I didn't save any of the other empty cases (I just checked the box), but I will fire a few of the ones I have left the next time I shoot the Single Six for a comparison case to the split case.

Might be a good idea to run a brass bore brush wet w/bore cleaner through each chamber just in case.

I do when I give the gun a thorough cleaning. If I recall correctly, I have since the ruptured case.

Well, if I had that happen to me I would want it to happen in that exact same gun. The single six is hell for stout for that caliber.

I've had a couple of .22LR cases crack over the years, both were from Remington "bucket of bullets", and in the revolver I was shooting, an all steel Pietta, only the sound told me something was up.

I would rather use a slingshot than shoot Winchester .22LR. A recent batch of Federal Black Pack was just as bad. Thankfully Federal gave me a full refund.

20 years ago or so I bought a brick of Winchester "Wildcat" .22 LR. Had case failure in many of them with the first box, so ended up throwing the rest of the brick out before they wrecked the chamber of my 10/22.

I also got a bad batch of bulk Federals a few years ago. While shooting my Ruger MKII target 22 suppressed, I noticed some of the rounds did not even make it to the target and were actually falling on the ground before they even made it to the target. I then had one round fail to eject, when I racked the slide I heard a rattle in the suppressor. I took it apart and found a bullet in the suppressor. I called Federal and they sent me a call tag to return the ammo. A couple weeks later they sent me a check and a notice that there was nothing wrong with the ammo.
