Got a great deal on a super shadow 7mm wsm today. I love the action, but hate the stock. Does anyone know if I can make a featherweight stock fit this gun? I know I would need a new floor plate, but dont know if /where I can find one. Anyone have any experience with this? I got it so cheap, it would be a shame not to fix it up.

It can be done, but it will cost you more than you probably paid for the gun. The triggerguard and floorplate will be around $215 http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=26855/Product/CUSTOM_STEEL_FLOORPLATE

A Featherweight stock can be bought at a good price from CDNN http://www.cdnninvestments.com/wifeshacwast.html But you will still have to open up the barrel channel. These stocks are designed for the newer FN actions, but CDNN sells an adaptor to make them fit. They are also not checkered. I have used washers as spacers between the front of the floorplate and the stock to make it work on a McMillan stock I put on an older rifle.

I'm not sure, but think you can get a Boyds stock for the Winchester and get it built with a blind magazine www.boydsgunstocks.com They only show the blind magazine for the long action, but may build one in short action.

Geno,

His rifle does not have the right bottom metal for that stock. He is looking at an additional $215 just to buy a new triggerguard and floorplate. That is a bit of a fuss to me.

Personally I'd shoot it as is and enjoy the rifle.

Thanks for all the help. I found a laminate stock and a solid walnut stock that will work at stockys. They are both 150 bucks. I will probably go with the laminate (Heritage Classic). I just cant decide.

You can get a Hogue overmolded stock from Midsouth Shooters Supply with pillar bedding for $100. You cannot use a standard Featherweight stock unless it is from a WSM. These barrel contours are different than standard calibers. As for the floor plate I would try Winchesters website.
