I spotted a Winchester 94 AE .357. It looks new (incl box and paperwork). The guy is asking $295. What are these worth? Are these good guns. I saw it and the only thought I had was "Wow! That is a beautiful gun." It has the tang safety.

I just checked gunbroker and gunsamerica and the prices are all over the place. How do you know what something like this is worth?

I bought one NIB like 10 years ago or more for $295. It's a good deal. They ain't makin them anymore.

i belive that is about the base price new when they last offered them......but the factory closed 2 years ago i believe

It's not a trapper. It's a 20" barrell. It's the AE (angle eject model). It has a saddle ring. It has the box and all paperwork incl. It's .357 mag. It looks new. I doesn't look like it's been shot. The wood is flawless.

Do you want it? Buy it. That's a good deal cheaper than a Brazilian Winchester copy, and a lot cheaper than a Marlin 1894C.

Even the uncheckered stained hardwood Big 5 Marlins, which I got for $379 a year ago, are up to $479.

I'd sure buy it, if I saw it for that price. If you don't like it, you can resell it.

Buy it. I bought the same thing, but paid over $400 about a month after the plant closed... Ooops...

Everyone,

Thanks for all of your advice. I bought it. Forgive my stupidity. I'm still new to guns and I didn't know if this was the normal price or a good deal. My wife says I'm cheap. I say I'm frugal. I'm a sucker for a good deal though. I've always loved lever guns. I had a Red Rider BB gun as a kid. I loved watching old reruns of "The Rifleman". I've always wanted a lever gun. I had always thought it would be a Henry. Maybe I'll get one of those someday too.

Good to hear you got it! That is a GREAT gun at a killer price.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised by how good it performs. Out of a rifle the .357 mag gets a LOT more umph! I have two marlin .357 mag levers and would love to find a Winchester!

Oh yeah... no recoil!

Tom

Congrats on a great rifle, mine has great accuracy out to 50 yards (never really shot any further) and there is absolutely no recoil. Follow up shots are easy to get, that was the main reason for the original purchase because I try to use it as a light brush gun when a .30-30 maybe more than I want.

Congratulations on picking up a nice rifle at a great price.

I have Winchester M94AE Trapper Carbines in both .44 Rem. Mag. and .357 Mag., and both are great fun to shoot.

And, as Tom Krein says, the .357 Mag. performs quite differently out of a 16-20 inch barrel compared to 4-6 inches.

Have fun with the rifle...

Forrest

All things are worth only what they are worth to me. Sometimes I think I got a good deal, sometimes I think I got skunked . MUTT
