Looks like my birthday came early this year.
Two years ago I came across a Winchester 94 being sold buy a friend of a friend that was down on his luck. He needed to get rid of it. All told the rifle had 20 rounds through it and was in new condition. He even threw in a set of Weaver scope rings and two boxes of ammo. After parting with $175 I made my way home. My wifes resopnse was priceless. "Sweeet! Now get yourself one!"
Last night a friend of mine and I were BS'n and the 94 came up. He said I got one I'll sell you. Not being able to pass up an offer from a friend I took him up on it. $175 would have been nice but this one cost a bit more. $180.
Its a 1981 production, Top Eject .30-30.
After seeing it I had to rescue it. He bought it from a pawn shop about 20 years ago. It sat, obviously stored in a soft case(we'll get back to that), for every bit of those 20 years.
The rifle is, internally, pristine. I doubt it has more than a handfull of rounds through it. The loading gate isn't even scratched!
The only thing wrong is that both sides of the receiver are rusted. You can see the fabric patern in the rust. :(
I'm sure it can be saved and its primarily a "truck gun" anywho so who knows. It might just stay that way. ;)
Take a look:

Is there some sort of disease that doesn't allow one to pass up a lever gun? Is it possible I have it? :D

My 94/.22 was in worse condition than that. I'd say you've got yourself a fairly simple fix and a good deal on a nice rifle.

Rupestris-

These things are addictive - huh?

Sigh...I went to where I have some stuff off-site. Seems a certain TOP-EJECT Model 94 in 30-30 I rec'd NIB for a B-Day gift..turned 30 yrs old recently...

The rust can probably be removed with 0000 steel wool or the finest grade of 3M abrasive pads and Hoppe's #9. It won't remove pits and won't scratch the steel either.
