So I was out with some family today shooting the shotguns and my Glock, and my grandpa gave me his Winchester Model 101 O/U 12 gauge. It's a really sharp, accurate shotgun. It's also in great physical condition, especially for its age.

I managed to find a site that claims the gun was made in 1964, and has an approx. value of $2000?

I used to have a 101, I was under the impression they couldnt be dated, something to do with the manufacturing in Japan.

I was a nice gun, but I never got on with it to be honest.

I will definitely take care of it...I'm really happy because it shoots like a dream and is extremely well balanced

Here is where I got my info from...no idea if it's credible or not.

I have a 12ga 1971 Skeet gun, 26" bored Skeet#1 and #2 in Pigeon grade and it is worth $2000 in it's 90% condition. The stock is slightly adjustable and it fis me like a glove. I used to shoot in the middle 90s (out of 100) with it in the 80s. It has been rebuilt, fairly easy to do on a 101, twice and is nice and tight right now. When I switched to Sporting clays in the 90s it was a little loosly bored and short in the barell, so now it is an early season planted pheasant/desert quail gun.
I have a 1969 20 gauge 101 that is my all time favorite upland gun. It is Imp cyl/mod 28" and 3" chambered. I had it long forcing coned and it kills roosters dead to 50 yards with 1 oz home brewed nickel plated #5 shot. I shoot mostly 20 gauge BTW for hunting upland birds or bunnies out of half a dozen guns, but the 101 is prolly my favorite.
Treat it well my boy! I will be passing mine on soon too.
