The cross in the circle means the ammunition was loaded to NATO specs, and will have crimped primers. You'll also find that the WCC brass is slightly thicker and stronger than commercial brass. Personally, I prefer it, since I load my 9mm rounds on the warm side and with the thicker brass there is very little case expansion with the warmer loads. I'm able to obtain all the
9mm brass the Coast Guard uses on our range, along with most of the commercial brass others leave behind. The only brass I keep for myself is the military brass, since it's so much stronger. I have a slick setup for removing the primer crimp and it only takes a second for each one.
You didn't get screwed. As for needing 9mm brass, I just gave over 5,000 rounds of once fired to a friend of mine. I get enough to keep a small city in brass for a long time.
