I have seen the ads for the 870 express at Cabelas for $250 after rebate, I have a friend who has a Wingmaster 12ga, the bll might be 24" or 28" It's an older gun that's been shot and cared for VERY much by it's owner. I'm just starting out with shotguns but, what would be a good price for this gun. I might just get them both if the price is fair because I know the Wingmaster is a step above the normal 870. Thanks

Much depends on condition and your local market for used guns. Around here a good condition used Wingmaster brings $300- 350 or so, at retail, depending on features (VR barrels bring more).

My friend was going to sell his wingmaster to me for about 250 until he saw the prices of used guns. Then he said he could not do it for that price, I have seen this gun and it is sweet. So, maybe 300-350 is the right price. We live in the Chicagoland area, so that is a drawback. Thanks for the quick response, I'll be up for a hour or so and then see him in the morning. Maybe some one else can add there expertise.

I would rather have the Wingmaster for several resasons. First, I think the older ones are built better than the 870 express guns. Second, the Wingmaster action seems smoother to me. Third, the finish on the Wingmaster doesn't rust as bad/quick as the Express.

The Express probably has a 3" receiver and the Wingmaster might not, but for HD who cares? I've got two of each around the house right now and my pick of all four is an old wingmaster police/riot gun.

I'm not sure I would pay $350 for a used wingmaster. It would have to be pretty special.

Ring,

I agree with everything, but, eventually it's up to him. I'll check for more posts in the morning with a clear head and a cup of coffee.

Get it and exercise it frequently. WMs are great shotguns.

There's 5 870s here, 4 are WMs ranging in age from 1950 to 1973. All are as dependable as a crowbar. Good pointers also.

I paid 250.00 for a Wingmaster, 30 inch fixed full choke VR barrel a few months ago. That one was advertised in the big nickle, so there are deals out there.

I'm going to meet with him in 15 minutes, I'll let you all know the results. Thanks again. This is a great forum, the moderators should be very proud.

price seems a little high for a used WM.

the WM and the Express will make an excellent HD shotgun.

My old Wingmaster does double duty as a HD shotgun. I put on a Remington factory 20 inch rifle sight barrel, and a Scattergun Tech. magazine extension.

I bought an old, ugly used Wingmaster from a local pawn shop. Mine is really really rough looking. I don't know exactly how old it is, but I can tell you that the forend doesn't look as big or nice as the ones on other Wingmasters (or Expresses) It has the corncob forend, and the buttstock shows stains right where it meets the receiver, which suggests that the gun was over-oiled at some point.

Despite her rough looks, she is absolutely buttery-smooth. Perfect operation every time! She has what appears to be an aftermarket barrel in the 18'' range, and she has a magazine extension tube, so she has a capacity of 7+1. This gun, in original form, probably would've been excellent for hunting/sporting use. In her current form, she makes a great HD weapon. Her relatively short, cylinder bore barrel is good at tossing buckshot and rifled slugs.

One of the silliest things I ever did was to sell a Wingmaster in fabulous shape that I'd previously bought for $250. Love to have it back now.

Are there any sources for a short blued barrel for an 870 Wingmaster?

Something in the 18.5" to 20" range?

I heard that they have stopped making them.

I picked her up yesterday for $300.00 He gave me 3 chokes as well. I'll post pics when I get back from vacation, she's resting comfortably now and getting to know her friends in the safe.
