Just read an article (Rolling Stone March 31) telling the story of two young guys (25) that became successful arms dealers doing deals with the US gov. Well in one part the article mentioned that in fulfilling a contract for ammo to supply Iraqi's they were buying ammo for 2 cents a round! Basically the same spam can ammo but we r still paying like more than 20 cents a round. Course they were buying it by the hundreds of millions of rounds that were 40 year old chinese surplus but still...
What would you do if centerfire ammo was that cheap?

While it wasn't 2 cents around, I've shot a lot of cheap ammo. The cheapest was 1440 rounds for 79 bucks. I burnt up a lot of that stuff. I wish I wish I would have stockpiled and resold it at today's prices instead of shooting beer cans with it...LOL.

Once I get more room and more money, I fully intend on reloading. I just don't have the space to put up a bench.

if reloading equipment was free. And brass, and lead, and powder and primers were free also. Then i guess it would be cheap to shoot.

Using lee equipement(lee deluxe turret kit) you would pay for it in ~ 1000 rounds or less.

Like anything if you buy in quantity, you would be able to get the same pricing. Nothing new.

But I would be hesitant to reference an article about two stoners from Miami who ended up getting busted for scamming on those same contracts that they were able to buy ammo on the cheap. Especially when those contracts were paid from tax payer dollars.

The fact that they were illegal drug users and committed fraud against the U.S. Gov't is irrelevant to this thread... The thread was about the price they were paying for the ammo... What's the purpose of drawing people's attention away from the actual matter being discussed?

I pay more than .02/rd for .22LR in bulk. If I could find XM193 for even close to that price I'd be happy to drive to Miami and back.

If they were selling to Iraq the ammo was most likely 7.62 x 39. I suppose you could contact an Eastern European government, or certain high ranking officers, and make a buy of a large quantity, say ten million rounds of ammo, and get it for .02 cash price. The Iraq government isn't going to buy 2,000 rounds at a time after all.;)
