Polaris-Area Man Jailed On Attempted Murder, Rape Charges

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A 911 call may have saved the life of a woman who was allegedly being strangled by her boyfriend.

A Polaris-area man was in jail Friday night on numerous charges -- including attempted murder, rape and kidnapping.

Delaware County sheriff's deputies said they kicked down Doug Stillman's door as he was allegedly strangling his girlfriend.

Deputies responded to a 911 call early Sunday morning from Stillman's daughter, who was also allegedly beaten by Stillman. The girl was able to run to a neighbor's home to make the call.

Delaware County Sheriff Al Myers said Stillman allegedly beat his 27-year-old girlfriend for more than an hour at Lake Club Apartments off Polaris Parkway.

Deputies arrived quickly, but no one came to Stillman's door, authorities said.

"When they spoke to a neighbor, a car alarm started going off," Myers said. "It was the victim's car. She had apparently gotten to her keys and hit the panic alarm."

Deputies kicked in the apartment door and allegedly found Stillman on top of the woman, strangling her.

Police said Stillman could face more charges. He allegedly called the victim from the Delaware County Jail to intimidate her. Myers said Stillman also faces child abuse charges for beating his daughter when she tried to help the victim.

Stillman is being held in lieu of $200,000 bond.

$200,000 bail? I know there is such a thing as "Excessive Bail", but even with Civil Rights in mind, aren't there times when "No Bail" can be an option? Or do individual Civil Rights demand that bail (freedom) be available for everyone no matter what?

[sarcasm] See, this why you don't need a gun to protect yourself. The police will make it in time [/sarcasm]

I'm glad she's all right, but this woman is darn lucky the cops made it there in time.

Good thing the victim was able to use the car alarm, though, 911 or no. Without that, the possibility is that the Forces of Good might have gone away in the absence of other noise...

"We responded, but heard nothing and so we left." This has happened in the past; it led to one of the lawsuits (D.C.) where it was held there is no specific duty toward any one individual.

This women is a victim of love and when he gets out I'm sure they will get back together, because he loves her. The last thing this women needs is a gun.
