Worth of this Browning Hi-Power?

Why? It’s true. You don’t buy a Rolex for the most meticulously accurate timekeeping. Good digital watches are more accurate than mechanical watches.
True, a $2 quart watch was more more accurate than my Rolex Submariner. Pride of ownership is a factor with a nice watch though.

Same, of course, for a nice gun.

I don't know, but if that Hi Power were listed on the big auction site, it might go for considerably more than $1000.00 in today's ofttimes crazy World.

Years ago, like the OP's old family friend, I did carry a T-Series Hi Power, though mine did have a bit of custom work. This was pre Glock, and before availability of all manner of relatively inexpensive Hi-Cap pistols. My HP choice was perhaps not as much a pride of ownership thing, as that there were not a lot of commonly available 9mm Hi-Cap pistols at the time. The S&W Model 59 and the rotating barrel French MAB PA-15 pistol never interested me enough back then to shell out my hard-earned money for either. Now days, my Timex and Glock are probably a lot more practical than a Rolex, and say, a Swiss SIG P210. But sometimes, that darn pride of ownership thing gets the better of us;)

IMO, FN Hi-Powers have increased dramatically, due to the fact they are now out of manufacture. If he's had it that long, it's probably the earlier design, not that this increases the value, per se', but consumer demand for the Hi-Power is high, and in no way speciously inflated, like the value of many Colts . In my estimation, I would say this gentleman could probably very easily sell this gun for 1200$ to 1400$, very quickly, making it a very solid value, at 1K.

No way that gun sells for $1400. Sorry even in today’s insane world that’s not gonna happen. I’ve seen better guns sell for less on gun broker in the last 60 to 90 days. I own a lot of BHPs I have bought and sold BHPs this is not a $1400 gun.

Like I said before if the gun had been stippled properly or was stock then maybe you were looking at a $1400 gun in its current condition it’s a rehab project and worth no more than $1000 and that’s being generous.

But what do I know…..

That's funny because I felt pretty much the same way, and I had several Model 469s and even a MAB PA-15. They were decent enough guns (the MAB especially was reliable, accurate, built like a tank, and had that nifty rotating barrel design going for it), and all but they just didn't have that Browning Hi-Power cachet!

Agreed, it's not minty or original. It's a nice shooter grade Hi Power with honest use. I'd try to get $800, but condition is everything.
