Hello, I'm doing some daydream rifle designing and I'd love to use some dimensions from the SCAR rifles (just because they're a reasonable example of a short-stroke piston).

What is the diameter of the piston? By piston I mean the little stick that gets actuated by gas and then slams the oprod/bolt carrier rearwards.

What is the diameter of the gas tube (the part where the piston lies that is also attached to the barrel) ?

Do you know if the 5.56 and 7.62 versions share gas assemblies or if they're model dependant?

Thank you!

The gas piston on an AK is attached to the bolt carrier and follows it for the whole movement of the bolt carrier. On the SCAR, the piston transfers impulse to the bolt carrier, and then it stays in the gas assembly. It's just like on an m1a or m14.

Edit:

There are some high resolution pictures of the front end that I could use to get a rough estimation of the size of the gas port. Does anyone know the diameter of the SCAR mk17 barrel right after the gas block?
