Moderators: Since my computer is having a problem allowing me to log on to APS where I originally had a thread about the following, and I have some info that some folks would like about this soldier, and all of them are members of THR, I am humbly posting this info. If you want to lock it as off topic, OK. Maybe you could make it a sticky for a week or so.
On Jan 11, 2006, during an Army op in North Baghdad, our boys raided a terrorist house. Spc. Justin York was the first man in. There were 8 terrorists in the house along with 18 vest bombs, grenades, small arms, rockets, ammo etc.
Justin was immedietly shot several times. He lost an ear and his pinkie finger as well as taking several rounds in the chest which knocked him out. (His vest saved his life) A fierce firefight ensued and 6 of the terrorists were KIA. Justin was the only GI injured.
When Justin woke up during the firefight, he groaned and a terrorist raked his thighs with AK 47 rounds in an effort to kill him. Those leg wounds are very serious concerning his ability to walk again. We can only hope and pray that he will recover satisfactorally.
Justin and his father were season ticket holders and sit in our section at our local AHL hockey team facility. Our section has been sending him get well wishes and he will be undergoing treatment in Texas for another 5-6 weeks. He has had 27 surgeries so far, some infection, and more surgery planned before he can come home or to the VA for more therapy.
Any support in the way of cards or notes of well wishes sent would be appreciated by his family. Tell him you're members of THR. Maybe at some point he'll be able to join the campfire with us.
