WWII and later- A Few Other GI Issue Pocket Knives

Here are few. There are many more less common ones I don’t have.

Army & Navy Air Corps Emergency Fishing Knife
Made by Camillus. They were packed in survival kits.
It has a 4” blade – 8 7/8” OAL.
The 4” liner-lock blade has a fish scaler section on the back of the spine.
Along with a hook remover in the rear bolsters.




Coast Guard Knife
3 ½” square–point blade, black imitation jigged bone scales, and lanyard bail on the handle.
It is stamped CAMMILLUS STAINLESS USA on the right side and S702 on the left side.
Similar to the Navy Pocket knife, but the Coast Guard version also has a can opener.




MC-1 Survival / Parachute knife
Adopted in 1958, ironically the same year Congress outlawed switchblade knives!

It has 3 1/8” blade with a folding shroud line hook on the other end.
They were made by Schrade-Walden, Camillus, and Logan/Smith.

I have rarely seen one that worked properly, or at all.
This Schrade in my collection snaps open, really slow, but often unexpectedly when you take the safety off!!




IMO: There should have been a congressional investigation concerning the people that approved this knife for military service!
It was disgraceful for the U.S. military to ever have adopted, accepted, or issued these as a potentially life-saving knife.

The Schrade-Walden and Camillus ones are well below the usual quality standards of either company, or the U.S. military as well.

And those made by Logan/Smith are far far worse than that!

Another of todays finds. I can't imagine why I wanted one of these - maybe the "Coast Guard"? I bought the second one to pinch the bail for the first one but it doesn't seem important enough for me to have changed it yet.

Everyone said "you gotta get one of those MC-1 shroud knives when you get to your unit" in 1965 . I finally got one in 1975, while in reserves after the war. I lost it in 1995 when somebody stole it from my tool box while on a job site. I never missed it and still don't, it WAS junk RC (RIP) and never really got used.

Of course there is the ubiquitous TL-29.

I had one of the Camillus MC-1 Parachute knives and it actually worked like it was supposed to. The blade didn't hold much of an edge but the shroud cutter was nice and sharp. I gave it to my brother when he was in the 101st Airborne. Don't think he ever used it but he still has it with the rest of his memorabilia.
