i looked at a XDM today loved the feel of it. had planned getting a Glock 20 admit the XDM felt better in hand,but how are they compared to Glock? t was a XDM in olive w SS slide was pretty.f it just was'nt in 40 S&W
 
XDm has a lot going for it. Current calibers are 9mm, .40 and .45 acp.

Pick the one that best suits your need.
 
I've got an XDm in 9 and love it. Zero failures in 1000 rounds so far. It is one of my favorites.
 
Yup. I shoot my xDM 9 a lot in IDPA. Works very well, accurate. Acceptable trigger that can be improved to pretty awesome.

Not much not to like.

How do they compare to a Glock? Entirely subjective. Every shooter's different.
 
When I was shopping for a new polymer pistol, the XDm just felt right in my hand. I bought it for that reason, and everything else just fell into place. Not a single complaint about it.

This is my new buying strategy: Trust the hand.
 
I have the XDm in .45 ACP. I chose it over the Glock 21 for several reasons.

1. The interchangeable backstraps allow me to fit the pistol to my hand like a glove.

2. Match grade barrels that fully support the casehead. Glocks have improved in that area but still do not support the casehead like the XD/XDm.

3. The ejection port is relieved so you won't find the scarring on the casemouth as you do with Glocks. This is a reloading feature and may not apply to non reloaders. The XD/XDm is more reloader friendly.

I have 2 modifications. I have a solid stainless guide rod to add weight up front. And as pointed out already XDm triggers can be made to be outstanding. I have the Powder River Precision trigger kit in my pistol that is rated for 3.5 lbs. My trigger breaks clean with a very short reset and no overtravel. It allows my Match Grade barrel to do what it is supposed to do and that is to provide exceptional accuracy.;)
 
My first "new" pistol was an XDm 9mm. Bought it and never looked back. I no idea how many rounds I have through it(1500 +/-), but it will shoot anything you put through it, including reloaded lead ammo. I have had no problems that were due to the gun in any way. (two "high primers" that fired on the second strike) I am going to be getting an XD .45 here soon also. I really like the trigger, but I think I may try some trigger work on my 9mm as it is my favorite(and cheapest) gun to shoot. YOu have nothing to worry about!

I haven't fired the new Compact yet (bought it Friday, going to the range tomorrow)

I never owned the original XD-45, but I shot my friend's and as a 1911 guy I complained about the creepy trigger. When I felt the trigger of the XDm-45 I bought it. I won't tell you it is as good as a 1911, but what is! I will say that the trigger is greatly improved, no creep and a much shorter reset. I actually feels close to a SA revolver trigger.

Another great benefit is the grip; It feels like a wide 1911 with an arched mainspring housing.
It also has the best accuracy I have found from a tupperware (some remaining distain) gun.

Alot of people like both the Glock and XD platforms, but not both for IPSC/USPSA matches. In the Bluegrass about 20 shooters in production class, 1 or 2 CZs, 2 or 3 M&Ps the rest are Glock G17 or G34s, rarely do you see any XDs. Why not any XDs? If they shoot as fast and accurately as say a G34, why so few XDs in IDPA and USPSA? XDs shoot great, but a G34 will handle and shoot better and faster in most shooters hands. This is my experience with both platforms, there is a good reason for the Glocks grip angle.
 
Todd Jarrett shoots a Para Ordnance, but I don't hold it against him. Really shoot both in the same caliber and get the one "you" like best, but if you want a 10mm...

That would be because of the odd classification of the XD into ESP instead of SSP where it "should" be.

I see quite a few of them, even so, and they compare well.
 
I have 3 XDm's, 40 cal, 9mm, and 9mm 3.8, and really like them. The guns are accurate, reliable, easy to maintain, and come with a life time warranty. In addition the capacity is superb. You will not be disappointed with a XDm. In fact, I will likely soon add a 45 cal to my collection.
 
I have an XDm 40 that I shoot in IDPA. The trigger on the XDm is not nearly as good as a good 1911, it is much more spongy, but it works well for quick shooting. As for the question of why you don't see more of them in competition, I can't answer that...there are a ton of them in competitions I shoot.
 
I noticed earlier today that SA is advertising on XDTalk that the XDm Compact in .40 S&W is now shipping. Just an FYI.;)
 
Mine is a XDm .45 with Truglo TFO sights and a powder River trigger kit. 14 rounds of .45. Lot's of safety features. Great house gun.

Wow, that XDm-9 Compact looks like the love child of a Sig and a Hi-Point! :)
