Picked up a MEC Sizemaster 12 ga at a yard sale today for $25 (and 440 rds of Barnaul 7.62x39 for $44!) :D . It's dirty with a little rust here & there but it's complete & works, if sluggishly. Still has shot & a ball powder in it (that will go on the flowers). I have 3 older 600 Jrs, 2 in 12 & 1 20, so I may have to declare one of them surplus (although it's nice to have one set up for trap, one for skeet, etc)... From doing a bit of reading, I understand that the EZ Primes on these can be a little finicky - does anyone have any suggestions on slicking it up & minimizing jams, etc? I've never really needed the auto prime on the 600s, but since this is set up for it I'll give it a try. I just don't want to go through the hassle if it's not going to work reasonably well.
Thanks!

Congratulations on your find. I never, ever put any kind of liquid lubricant on my tools. I am very concerned about oil contamination of primers/powder. What I have done is carefully clean off rusted parts, degrease them, then coat them with Johnson's paste wax. Polish it in and buff it dry. The metal will now be slick enough for moving parts to rub against each other, but there won't be the potential for contamination.

Thanks, Mike. I'm good on cleaning the metal. My question has to do with the EZ Prime and avoiding jams and problems that others have noted in reviews. The usual caveats about petroleum based lubes & solvents always apply; I do use Birchwood Casey Sheath (has a new name now, I believe) sparingly on the main spring and some other non-case touching parts, but never damp. Graphite has worked well for certain sliding parts and also the "white graphite", hexagonal boron nitride (now there's a whole 'nother thread!).

I hardly ever find good deals like that at a yard sale. I did see a Colt .36 Navy at one the other day for $350 in excellent condition. It wasn't a reproduction either, it was a Colt. Wish I'd have had the money.
I did pick up a nice powder horn today for $7 though.
