The only thing I could do was invite my brother-in-law to the range. Until he shoots guns at a range with me, I will not participate in discussions about guns at family gatherings. I’ll just leave the room. I'm far outnumbered. I'm not even going to get into the details. The same old arguments are the same. People in pro-gun families, you have no idea.

best way to turn people over to our side is taking them to the range and teach the right.

otherwise it's just a bunch of this :banghead:

keep up the good fight.

Pacifism is the privilege of the protected.

If the topic causes strife, don't start any conversations about it. My family doesn't like guns either, but we don't talk about it. There really isn't any need to. I do my thing, they do theirs.

But guess who they come running to when ever they have questions about guns. :)

That's a great idea. It's been working for me. May have taken $200+ worth of my ammo at Xmas last year, but I took my Dad, 3 Uncles, and 2 Aunts. Worked great. So much so that one Uncle got a pair of 44-40s for Xmas this year, and another got a .22 rifle. And now I get ammo under the tree from lots more relatives!!!

Take them to the Range. Show them the way. Works for friends too. The Converts may not be total "pros" yet...but their certainly not vocal "antis" any more.

As a helpful sign, my sister in law has always ranted against guns for decades. But, recently, she told my brother in law to go get one! At a time when appliances were failing left and right, and budgeting wasn't real flush for them.

Yes, it may have been due to election results, but the arson of three houses in her neighborhood, along with the "Gran Torino" deterioration is beginning to add up.

When life comes and sets up across the street, your famiy members real values will be shown. Then you will find some unlikely allies.

Sometimes you don't even need to get them to the range.

I used to work in a highly gun-unfriendly area, where ranges were rare, inconvenient and expensive. But I still taught a sometimes free, sometimes fee course on firearms familiarity for non-firearms owners. The idea was to make them at least safe around the things, and perhaps able to use one in an emergency, if they were lucky enough to get or find one.

Frankly, I wish I had an afternoon like that as a kid. Eddie Eagle was long after my time. I grew up shooting rifles and shotguns, but not handguns. I eventually got a revolver when I was 23, but didn't have an auto loader until I was 30. All those dang buttons, levers and such, never in the same places, all with different functions, different spring strengths, guns with different features, etc. I was a very pro-gun guy, but wasn't comfortable with an autoloading pistol until I was 30. Silly.

Anyway, I neutralized the political opposition of quite a few anti-gun people who were terrified of the things before I introduced them to some beautiful historical firearms, and their operation and care. Never even got to the range with them.

My brother is kinda an anti. He went to a place called Front Site or something that had courses set up and everything and he had a good time there but he said as for just going to the range that he doesnt see the point and wont buy a gun or anything gun related for anyone.

My cousin shuddered when she saw what my dad got my mom for Christmas, a 642. She refused to touch it and just claimed that, "I'm not a gun person".:fire:
I soooooo wanted to say something to the affect of, "Sure, just fist-fight a 6'2' rapist instead", but hey, she's my cousin and it was Christmas.:(

We have some antis in the family but they are badly outnumbered. It is pretty amusing at times watching them cringe. Since they already know better there is no conversion possible. Some people ignore the truth in the face of overwhelming evidence contrary to their beliefs.

I answer questions (if they are half-way intelligent) and never try to change anyone's mind (that's their job). My experience has been that most antis are simply ignorant and fearful. If they want to allay their fear by acquiring factual info, I'm glad to help in any way I can. If not, then I leave them to their bliss.

Until he shoots guns at a range with me, I will not participate in discussions about guns at family gatherings.

This is true... you can't argue gun rights with someone that has no experience with guns.

Frankly, I am so sick and tired of arguing for the validity of my constitutional rights with these types. Now I just say, "you want them, come and get them". That usually ends the argument post haste.

I do the same to my family. I tried arguing for years, and it didn't work. Now I just change the topic or go talk to someone else.

I agree, some of ya'll are very lucky coming from pro-gun families.

I think I've decided I won't say anything, unless someone asks me a genuine question (and not just a troll-type question)... otherwise I'll just simply suggest whether they want to go the range or not. Simple, and I won't say any more/less. At the range I'll open up the discussion a bit further if I feel it is right.

My best argument has always been..
Would you fight of a rapist with your hands? " yes "
If you had a stick would you use it to fight off the rapist? " yes "
How about a knife would you use it? " yes "
So use a better weapon!!

I don't understand anti's...

I like guns, *** difference does it make to them? Who are they to tell me what I can and can't collect / like / pursue??? So called tolerant people are the most intolerate in the world. THINK LIKE ME OR YOU ARE WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate to hear their whiny voices and arguments.

I own 40 guns and they have never gone off randomly taking life, I have never been thrown into a murdererous rage just because of the proximity of firearms. So we know just from that, that guns do not kill people. The people that would use guns to murder would use something else to murder, human history proves as much, in fact, if you examine the history of civilization it corresponds perfectly with the development of firearms as weapons. The more effective the "gun", the more highly advanced the "civilization" and civilization as a whole. This is not true of any other weapon of war.

Idiots, I have no patientce for them, expose their simpleton logic and then toss them aside to shudder and cry.
