My DMR is complete (DSA FAL, FF hand guard, raised cheek piece, work and refinish done by Rich@CGW) except, I need a scope. I kinda ran over on my budget on it as I went, so right now I have very little money left for glass. So I am going to list two categories of scope (cheap and not-so-cheap) and hopefully you all can give some input.

My needs:
Illuminated Reticule
Variable power greatly preferred
Low power setting needs to be 3x or less (for CQB/close shots)
A CQB style reticule (like in the IOR) or a circle dot (like the Leupold and Mueller) is a must
Needs to be able to handle the .308

Cheap scopes (which I will buy one of these very soon just to get glass on the gun)

New Simmons 1.5-5x32 ProDiamond Master Shotgun Scope -Illuminated Diamond ($150.00ish)

Mueller 2-7x32 Multi-Shot -3 Reticule ($150.00ish)

Right now I am leaning towards the Mueller. I have read some positive things on it. Not too thrilled about it being 2x, but I can handle 3x for CQB/close shots if need be, so 2x won't be a deal-breaker. The fact that the max power is 7x is pretty nice though. Really overall that's a nice spread and should give me a lot of room to work with.

Not-so-cheap scopes: (which I will buy later on and shall reside permanently on the rifle)

IOR 1.1-4x26 Tactical 30mm Rifle Scope -Illuminated CQB reticule ($700.00)

Leupold 1.5-5x20 VX-III 30mm Riflescope -Illuminated Circle Dot ($500.00)

Honorable mentions
IOR 3x25 Tactical 30mm Rifle Scope -Illuminated CQB reticule ($600.00)

ACOG 3.5x or 4x ($800.00ish)

These are both fixed power and I don't particularly like the ACOG's on a FAL. The IOR 3X is kinda neat, but for $100-200 more I could have 1x more zoom and 2.9x less zoom.

Anything I missed? I don't want to spend $1000 on glass for this gun, that just doesn't make sense. A nice scope for this project should not cost more than $600-700 or so.

Thoughts?

I'd go with the Millet as they look to be very functional.

+1 on the long term IOR plan

Sounds like you know what you're doing.

Millet? Or did you mean Mueller? Is there a Millet model I don't know about? Or are you trying to convince me I should tell my barber I want a Mullet? This is all so darn confusing!

hehe, j/k. :D

Thanks for the reply!

Wasn't too impressed on the Mueller scopes....ok, but not that great...
The best bang for your buck, is the Zeiss Conquest line, but no Illuminated Reticule (Which I wouldn't buy), but they are very nice glass. Nikon Monarchs, were nice too, in fact, only Zeiss and Nikon make their own glass.

My vote would be for the Mueller. I have the 2-7 circle dot and love it. I also have a older Leupold Vari X II 2-7X and the Mueller has brighter and clearer optics. Great scope for the money.

I've been hearing a lot of decent things about the Mueller scopes lately, Japanese lenses apparently, the rest outsourced to China...
