You think your school policy is bad?

god i wish i had it that easy,

im in the navy and the hoops one jumps through to store a personal firearm on base is enough to make your hair gray, (thoughts of bored gunner's mates dry-firing my weapons all day fill my mind)

the only redeeming thing is im stationed close to home, so my collection sits in the family gunsafe, but i pity all my shipmates who have to subject their toys to the horrors of the armory :D

"University Police. Chief."

This is RevDisk. I just wanted to let you know that we're doing a weapons demonstration over by Bldg 123. You should have a letter already on your desk.

"Oh yea. Thanks for the reminder. It doesn't say anything besides military, what are you bringing?"

Some M2 .50 cals, a few Squad Automatic Weapons, few other belt-feds, an automatic grenade launcher, couple '16's, some other odds and ends.

"Uh, ok."

Say, could I bring my personal handgun and leave it in the trunk? I have a CCW. I have to bring these weapons back to the vault when we're done.

"No, sorry. No one is allowed to carry any guns on university property."

Could I leave it at the station and pick it up when I leave?

"No, it's against policy."

:banghead:

Quick google later:

School is SUNY Purchase. From another section of their Community Standards of Conduct:

"For action to be taken and sanctions to be imposed on campus, the College’s interests as an academic and professional community must be distinct and clearly involved. As such, incidents which occur off campus where there is a relationship between the College’s interests and the activity may be adjudicated on campus."

So, a riot after a sports game or a minor in possession charge at a frat house would qualify because the school has a vested interest in the reputation of organizations associated with it. It has no "distinct and clearly involved" interest in a student who goes to the range or keeps firearms in her house.

Tell your friend to read the *whole* agreement next time, not just the parts with keywords that catch her eye :)

I've said it once and I'll say it again. You lose a rights when you are a college student. Even worse if you live on campus. It's not right, but it's the way things are.
