The path less chosen...
Gun show insanity!
I just went to the local show where a dealer had a CZ-50 in about 85% condition with a holster and two mags for..........................$700.00!!!!!
Some people are completely insane and they wonder why nobody walks out the door at these shows with a gun.Im still reeling from the price!:what:

Oh Well Now....WOW! :what: Youve got to be kidding. I could invent a time machine and go back an buy a new one for that! :D Well almost.

Outragous.......

1) Did you ask him what he was on? or smoking?
2) Did you ask him where we can get some?
3) Did you ask him If he actually new what gun he had?

Reminds me of the gun show a couple of years ago. An older guy had a Sig that was literally "RUSTED TOGETHOR"...slide/mag release/frame...pitted and trashed. It looked like he had fished it from the bottom of a lake that morning..and dusted it off. It was marked 600$

I asked him if it was a misprint. He said no....I asked him if hed take less..at that point he stood up and put his hands on the table..looked me in the eye and said "Son, you dont know much about guns do you? That is the finest firearm ever made..thats a SIG".......
I politely put the gun down and said..."I know my guns sir and my dad who is right here" Standing behind me chuckling..no less " Is an FFL and his price on that gun, new, is less than you want for this gun that wont even function.....Sir!

We just walked away in about the same state of shock I am hearing your story..............god......I love it! Maybe Im not nuts after all!

Shoot well.......................

They're getting rare, but not THAT rare.

(I just sold one to another C&R licensee for $100, which seemed a fair price given than I paid a little less than that for it, and no longer had any interest in it...)

Wonder if it will sell?

I've seen more than one gun show dealer trying to pass off an S&W Model 12 as an M13 Aircrewman at well over $1,000.

Problem is, these are extremely rare.

And with a "D" prefix on the serial number, are well over a decade too late to have been an Aircrewman.

Then there's the issue of all of the missing markings...

Stupidity, greed, or fraud.

Doesn't matter.

Considering that my dad bought one last year for $80 and it looked essentially new along and came with 2 mags. This guy must be some sort of a nut. Then again, I've seen lots of this at shows.

It's not just guns. Folks selling twenty five year old cars as "antiques."

Wanting high dollar for rusted out four door '56 Chevrolet Belairs.

All kinds of idiotic folks out there.

But it's there merchandise, they can put the price they please on it. On the one hand, it ain't eating. On the other...it's not helping to feed them, either.

I didnt ask him to elaborate on his pricing structure as it wasnt worth my time.Hes just hoping he can fool someone into believing its a rare European gun i guess. There was ONE good deal table where a guy had that Nazi headstamp 8x56 for $2.00 a box and a baggie of 1977 mil-surp .308 for $3.00.I snagged those and mosied out the door.

That's the going rate for the 8x56R... evidently Century didn't have the last of the ammo (or that guy in Wisconsin) ... another shipment of it 'recently' turned up. Now all you need is an M95 to shoot the stuff :D

"Doesn't matter."

Sorry - It does.
It does because someone who is less in the know will think it's an Aircrewmen and pay the requested price only to find out later that his investment is worthless.

That's either a Mistake or it's Fraud.
If you see something like that, tell the dealer he made a mistake. If you doesn't fix it, it's Fraud. If he insists on the Fraud, tell the Gun Show organizers.
You know, I'd also tell the police. Fraud is a crime. People get busted for fraud over baseball gloves and trading cards... why should a gun be different?

Jackholes that do this deserve to be busted.

I shot a CZ50, found it to be uncomfortable and marked it down on my 'List of stuff to buy if under $100+shipping'. Been looking ever since, but it seems I got my C&R right after all the big distributors sold out of them. :-(

Nobody really cares if gunowners get ripped-off. We're polititcally incorrect.

George,

You misunderstood the meaning of my "Doesn't matter."

That was supposed to mean that it doesn't matter whether it's fraud, greed, or stupidity, it's still WRONG, not that it doesn't matter that the guy may rook someone.

I have gotten into fights with dealers at shows before over things like this.

Like the guy who said he had a VERY RARE I-FRAME S&W .38 Spl.

Sorry, bud, that's a J-frame. The I-frame is too small to take the .38 Spl.

You'd have though I whizzed in his face.

Quite frankly, though, if someone is going to plop down over $1 grand on what is decidedly a collectible gun like an Aircrewman, if they haven't done their homework as to what constitutes an Aircrewman to the point where they'd take a dealer's word for it, then I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for them if they pay high on a gun that they could easily have verified.

There are faked Aircrewmen out there, and some of them are VERY good fakes. Matter of fact there's a reference book out there with a picture of a fake in it that fooled the author...

so what exactly is a cz-50? i've heard of the cz-52, even have one, but dont recall anything about a '50......
guess i better go do some research.

Sorry Mike... I musta missread you. Had a headache while reading it... Hmm... still do...
Anyways...

"No one really cares if we get ripped off."
There is a lot of complacency in the shooting community because we are all good folks who are peaceful and trusting and take personal responsibility seriously. We often go by the "Fool Me Once" rule of thumb and let things slide a little too often. Meaning that jackholes who knowingly commit fraud by convienently mis-identifying a firearm seem to get away with it as they are always at the next gunshow with another "rare" gun to sell. You can tell these guys as they are at the table with the more experienced staying 10 feet away from it and its the greenhorns that get suckered.

If you are new to gunshows... bring a book with you. A blue book of sorts.
Look up everything.

Reminds me of the guy at all the local gunshows who sells magazines.

Me: "Whatcha want for that magazine?"

Him: "$125"

I've asked him this numerous times about magazines that can be had via the internet for $45. I'm hoping that maybe one day it'll dawn on him that if he were selling those mags at anything approaching a sane price, he'd have made far more than $125 off of me.
