Your opinion on Sig X-Five Allround

I want to ask some Sig experts here to give their opinion on the X-Five Allround model. I want to know how good is this pistol and is it worth money? I might be picking one up in a day or so if not as early as tomorrow.

How accurate?
How does it compete with Elite?
How does it compete with x-6?
Whats its collection worth?

I love my Sig Sauer P226 X5 allaround.



It is deadly accurate.

It is the gun I compete with.

It's heavy - not carry gun.

But a excellent range & competition gun.

I had a trigger job done on mine.

And just got it back from Customized Creations - I had my slide lightened

You can't beat a P226 X5 allaround IMHO

It also forces you to shoot "Open Class" and knocks you out of using it for IDPA.

It does make the slide lighter.

But only about 1 oz. - my opinion - it's more for looks.

I've had no problems at all with it.

How accurate?

This is a hand held, 1.10" five shot group at 50 yards shot by Bruce Gray of Grayguns Inc. while test firing a customers X-5 Allaround. The owner is shooting sub-3" free style groups at that range while practicing for the Bianchi Cup. It has a Bar-Sto barrel fitted, an action job and the rear sight notch has been narrowed

How does it compete with Elite?

If you mean compare, the X-Five is fitted to a much higher degree than the Elite...they are built in Germany. The Elite is just a 226ST with a beavertail and SRT parts installed

How does it compete with x-6?

The regular 226 is comparable to the Colt Commander in size.
The X-Five is GM sized
The X-Six would be a long slide. The same workmanship goes into it, it is just for folks who would like a long sight radius.

Whats its collection worth?

It is in current production, it is worth what someone will pay you for it. The L-1 (adjustable trigger) and the Competition (SAO) models are worth a bit more

The take up was much longer than my Elite. May be it can be adjusted? Tools?

Yes and No. You have to remember that you are comparing the Elite equipped with the SRT to a X-5 without

It can be adjusted, but the correct way would entail welding...the fast way would be to install the SRT parts

Hmmm. I really like the srt. I dont like the take ups on conpetition pistols. If my deal goes through tomorrow I might get some sort of tigger job done. When you say adjustable trigger, what does it mean? Lighter to break or less take up? I see a screw above the trigger on the frame. Is that for adjusting trigger? If so, with what?

When I posted about the adjustable trigger earlier, I was referring to the SIG X-5 L-1. It is a SAO model and that trigger is adjustable for
1. Pull weight
2. Overtravel
3. Trigger Reach

The Allaround, with it's DA/SA trigger, cannot be adjusted for any of these except through gunsmithing...that pin above the trigger isn't an adjustment screw.

I'd recommend that if you'd like the reset distance reduced, you take a look at the services offered by Grayguns Inc

Do you think SRT should have been in x5? Would it make it better shooter?

No, I don't. The SRT doesn't affect the accuracy of the pistol, it only allows a trained shooter more time between reset and trigger press while the gun is in recoil

I've found that when the SRT is installed at the factory that the trigger pulls are noticably sub-par compared to non-SRT triggers. Most of this is due to the increased trigger/sear engagement the factory specs for their SRT guns for safety reasons.

If you really have the training to take advantage of a properties of a reduced rest on your pistol, I much prefer the modification done by Grayguns

I finally bought X5 Allround today.

I think you're really going to enjoy it. I have an X-5 TAC TB. It's SAO #4.5 and has night sights. Even with the lightweight frame, it's so accurate it's almost boring.

I found a pic of it on the dealer's site after I bought it at a gun show.
