While having a youth shoot the problem of good fitting hearing protection for kids came up.Any of you out there in "cyberland" have any experiance with this?Would also like some suggestions on outfitting small kids too as my 3yr old wants to go hunting with me this year. The standard foam plugs are too big for little ears as are the muffs.Any ideas guys?

Duct tape and cotton balls?

I make my grand daughter wear plugs and phones. You should be able to squeeze the foam plugs down to the point where they will work. You can probably find a pair of muffs that will work or can be cut down.

You can't be too careful with young ears.

local walmart had a youth shooting set, glasses and muffs. I think it is more for 8-11 age group. maybe bending the muffs in some may make it fit a smaller set of ears. as an adult I sometime have troubles with plugs let alone getting a kid to get a good fit.

wallymart has a set but they are for the 8 up group as previous posted but the peltors i got my boy whos 6 would deff size down smaller for smaller kids

If you have $35 - $50 to spend, the best way to go is the custom molded ear plugs you can have made at the audiologist or at most gun shows. These will typically last even fast-growing kids at least a year, and are cheap insurance for a lifetime of not having to say "What?" constantly.

Silencio has kid's size shooting glasses, and some of their lower end muffs have headbands that adjust down to way small. I have some orange ones where each side is only joined by the plastic headband piece they both run through. I'd bet they could be shrunk down to fit a hamster. I was able to fit my kid when she was like 4 years old. I would'nt use plugs as they are going to be awfully large and installing them is'nt something I'd count on the kids to do correctly.

Getting them started off right with the religious use of eye and ear protection is fantastic.

I'll look around for some of those muffs.Me and the little one were watching the Ducks unlimited show this weekend and she noticed that the hunters in the blind were wearing earplugs:) makes a dad proud ...
