I an putting a Yugo 59/66 in a Dragonov type stock.
I removed the GL yesterday and was wanting to also remove the entire sight , bayo, butt ugly something or other ring also.

I remove the sight block assembly from a Yugo 59 by simply driving the pins out and tapping the block off the barrel.

Can the 59/66 assembly be removed in the same way or is it more involved?

If I remember right, there's one pin you drive out of the grenade launcher fitting, then it unscrews from the barrel. Take off the bayonet. There are two pins holding the sight block in place; drive them out, and should be able to push the sight block off toward the front.

Ok that's how the 59's sight base came of.
I used a paneling nail on that one
The pins on the 59/66 are in much tighter and I haven't had time to go get a set of real punches.

Or, just cut and re-crown at base of sight block. You will probably get better accuracy after re crown too.
A Yugo just isn't eorth the money or trouble

Took the base off yesterday

It took about 5 minutes.

Drive the two pins out and tap the block off just like the other Yugo.
Now I have a sleek normal looking barrel

I would like to find a replacement base for the Yugo 59 though if anyone kows a sorce

Here's my 59/66 with the barrel cut, recrowned and a russian sight block. The handle for the bayo is chinese to fit over the end of the barrel. Mark

Other than finding someone with pieces parts is there a supplier for the sight bases ?

Also
How did you mount the sight block to your barrel?

I am thinking about cutting off that ugly ring (don't know what its for) and reinstalling it on my 50/66
But in cutting off the ring I'll also be cutting off the second poin that holds the sight in place

The russian sight has 2 pin holes. One lines up but the other doesn't. The sight block is such a tight fit that I only installed one pin and it holds fine so I didn't drill the barrel for the other pin. I would think that a yugo 59 and a chinese would be like the russian I have and all their pin holes match. The 59/66 just has one hole in a different location. As for sight bases I don't know where any are except the one I posted. I would think you could use the sight barrel and front sight from your 59/66 in that yugo mod 59 front sight base. One other thing, if you cut off the ring off your 59/66 sight base and it has a pin hole, the barrel will have a groove that shows for the pin where the ring use to be.

That's what I was wondering, if the fit was tight enough for just one pin.
The 59 block slid off very easy with almost no force the 59/66 took more persuasion and a bigger hammer.

That's also what I was thinking about doing that way I would also have a front night sight on the scout configured 59.
The bad part is that the groove left will be on top, but I have also considered having the barrel cut down to sixteen inches if it will not interfere with the gas operation of the gun which I have heard could be affected
