i have a leupold mark 4 mrt scope on my m1a and went to zero it at the range today. the problem was i couldnt dial it down far enough for 100yds. i was using the first top mil dot as my point of aim. and at 200yds it was still shooting too high to use the cross hairs. what is the solution to this?

its the bassitt machine mount with leupold mk 4 rings. high quality stuff all the way. i was just shocked when i dialed down the optic all the way and still couldnt use the cross hairs at 100yds or 200yds.

Have you spoken to Basset Machine? I only use Brookfield type mounts: SEI or Sadlak. It definitely sound like an issue with the mount not having the proper slope.

I suspect shimming is going to be troublesome if the rear of the mount locks into the dovetail for the clip charger guide like the Brookfield.

Is the a Springfield Armory rifle? If so, you may have an out of spec receiver.

Also, from Basset's web site

A few customers have reported that their shots were high/right or low/left. After some investigating, we discovered that some rifles had a barrel that was not parallel to the action. The Vietnam era Telescope/Auto-Ranging ART II Operation Manual even documents this issue and how to work around it with the ART II Scope. (See page 3, B.4.) Here is a document that we drew up to help you determine whether your barrel and action are parallel.

yes, it is a SAI rifle. you are saying i cant use that mount with that rifle? it is the low mount too.

The mount is too low in the back, or too high in the front. Without seeing the mount up close, it is hard to come up with a correction, but you basically need to tip the front of the mount towards the barrel.

If the mount relies solely on the grooves on the receiver to index, you have a problem.

If you look at this Sadlak Brookfield type mount, you will see how it attaches to the receiver and the clip guide.

Here's Smith Brookfiled

Note the use of the eccentric bolt to allow for receiver variations

Does the Basset attach like this?

looks to me like the scope is pointing up. it's almost as if you have a 20 MOA base installed backwards. could be an optical illusion though.

Just throwing this out there. If you can't bring it in line any other way you might have to try the Burris Signature Pos-Align offset inserts.

He can't shim it. The Basset bolts into the side of the receiver and relies on the groove on the receiver to orient the mount. At least that's what it looks like based on Bassett's web site.

I am guessing that barring eccentric rings like blitzen suggested, he's going to need a different mount.
