Hodgdon Powder acquires RCBS from Vista Outdoor

well
I could also see it heading south with prices going north…
likewise kinda stinks Hodgdon will jack up the prices just like they did with Ramshot and Accurate powders , the more of the market they own they can set whatever price they want
since Hodgdon is an importer they don't make any products I wonder if they will outsource all of the RCBS line to 100% made in China as RCBS is now already at least 70% made in China
IMHO

I think this is a great fit reason being if they would have landed in a investment firm they would sucked the profits out of them and sold them again or worse just closed them once they got done with them. I will explain as I used to be a dairy farmer, White motor company bought Oliver Farm Equipment, Minneapolis Moline Farm Equipment Company and Cockshutt Farm Equipment of Canada in the 60’s they bleed all three companies of there profits for the most part to fund there failing heavy duty truck company as time goes on they slowly kill off Cockshutt , then they start dismantling MM and some MM tractors are just painted Oliver green then it gets to the point where White wants to bring out there own brand of tractors and farm equipment, all 3 brands disappear and the early White tractors are pretty much just Oliver tractors painted silver and black as time goes on they now get sold again to Tenneco then to Allied/New Idea and finally end up being bought by AGCO and the White brand disappears. I know this is long but this is why I am glad Hodgdon has bought them a company that is in the reloading industry.

Vista Outdoors was a terrible thing that happened to the Company. Too bad this didn't happen 6 years ago. Maybe now RCBS will get to apply the resources needed to make a good progressive a great progressive, and maybe now good marketing will also return. Hope for the ProChucker 7.......finally!! I love mine, but I had to make it sing on my own with simple improvements to their case feeder.....it wasn't hard.

Vista would not let them develop the product. What was first released was all we got once the initial bad press came. Vista stopped any continuing development that might cost a little money, and that was almost a death knell......it did kill the 5 station version. And not that much tweaking was needed.

Seven stations is addictive! Best part? The parent company is part of the American reloading industry, so they have a vested interest! I'm elated! 3 plastic parts fixed the case feeder.....first test below:

Interesting, but I avoid buying anything made in California. Hopefully Hodgdon will move production to a state that respects and honors the 2nd Amendment.
There's a lot of good people still in California, though many are leaving in droves, many can't. RCBS employs a good number of them. You are not buying from California, you are buying from conservatives who are stuck in California. RCBS still casts and builds many cast iron presses in their own local factory.....like the Rock Chucker, the Summit, the AmmoMaster II and the new Rebel.....the best one yet. I choose to support them, not California. One more thing......California "needs" such good people and companies if they are to change.

This is a quote from RCBS's website that I think will interest some: (do click to expand)

RCBS - Made In America For 80 Years

RCBS has been manufacturing premium reloading tools in Oroville, California for over 80 years. While the neighborhood and manufacturing technology have changed, the American pride we take in making your reloading gear has not.

All of our products are designed here in the U.S., and over 97% of them are made in the United States. This includes all of our dies, presses, mechanical powder throwers, shell holders, bushings, and more. However, a short list of products are manufactured globally in countries like Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, and China. Want to know where a product is made? Simply look at the product's listing on our website or give us a call. Our customer service in Oroville, California or Overland Park, Kansas will be happy to assist you.
Even I thought maybe the Aluminum presses like the ProChucker 7 were made outside the USA......not so.

I'm still hard into RCBS with two Ammomaster Auto's. I can swap one to single stage as needed. Most of my die sets are RCBS. I've got spare die plates and just about every shell plate I'd ever need. I'm hoping to see more advancements with their bullet feeders, case feeders, etc.

When I first saw the thread, my brain saw that capital "H" and I immediately dreaded the pending death of my RCBS stuff. Then I realized that "H" was at the front of "Hodgdon" and not "Hornady". I thought Hornady might have bought it in order to kill it.

I guess this explains it, I tried to log in yesterday and had issues. Notes on top of web page indicated I might need to create a new account. I created a new account and it looks like my VIP (mil, LE) pricing is not available. Anyone know the status of that? I tried calling, and got "an outside of normal business hours" message.

Did you click on "Support" on the home page? If you do, a drop down list of options includes "Military VIP Program". I didn't pursue if further. Hope it helps.

I hope they don't screw up RCBS.

As far as "Made in china" goes, I have a new set of RCBS dies and have not been able to find anyplace on them that states where they are made. Maybe I'm overlooking it?

The only way CA will stop trampling on gun owner rights is when people refuse to do business with them or any company that manufactures within the state. When you purchase from RCBS, you are in effect giving money to California’s gov’t. You’re also paying more for a product that could be made cheaper elsewhere, like TX or another southern state.
RCBS should be admonished for capitulating to California’s rabid assault on gun ownership. And for that reason, I’m done with them.

I don't totally disagree with you but I think it is important to remember the people who live and work in California are Americans. Rest assured business owners in CA let the state know their position. And rest assured the middle and working class let the state know their dismay. Any business owner is employing Americans that live there and not everyone has the ability or desire to just pick up and go. CA is jacked up state for sure but they are also huge contributors to the national economy and national defense and we should be thankful there are businesses employing people to live very precarious lives earning little money in a super expensive state.

I had to chuckle when I read the statement from Revelyst regarding the sale:

"Revelyst will use proceeds from the sale to enhance the operational efficiencies of the company’s power brands, evaluate bolt-on acquisitions, and invest in maker-fueled innovation and organic growth."

If anyone can interpret that I'd be appreciative. They gotta be better off under Hodgdon.

This tells me all I need to know about Hodgdon. https://hodgdonpowderco.com/hodgdon/

Our mission is to provide quality products and services in a manner which enhances the lives of our employees, families, customers, suppliers, and our communities. In doing so, we deal with integrity and honesty, reflecting that people are more important than dollars, and that our purpose is to bring credit to our Lord Jesus Christ.

Hmmmm. Lots of businesses profess honoring God and good for them. I find this statement to be quite over the top. This business is not following any model of Trinitarian Christianity. They are following the capitalist model of profit. While the founders may subscribe to Christianity, I think the company statement is pandering to Christian customers. All for businesses professing faith but show me how their business model has the "purpose" of honoring our Lord Jesus Christ.

but I think it is important to remember the people who live and work in California are Americans.

That's like saying every American believes wholeheartedly in the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights... particularly the 2nd Amendment. We all know that's not true.

There are a lot of Americans that don't give one hoot about being an American. Further, there are people who live and work in America that are not Americans.

As far as Hodgdon aquiring RCBS... we will have to wait and see.
