No it isn't. A judge seizes property from someone who used it to commit a crime and handed to over to be used in law enforcement. This has nothing to do with an officer claiming anything out of a property room, but a process in the same vein as asset forfeiture. I don't think O've seen one done in 15-20 years.Whoah, that is sketchy. If an officer can claim confiscated property, well . . . that way lies BIG problems. My understanding is that quite a few careers in quite a few departments have ended over issues in the property room. Even an officer buying something at auction raises issues, in my mind. Just too many opportunities for ethical slippage.
