Doesn't It do down range readings tho, wonder if that's something garmin could add in a updated some how. From what I see the lr guys interested in the new la since they weren't very supportive of the older models and there app sucks.
Lots of us have tested the onboard BC calc of the original LR unit, and we’ve found it isn’t sufficiently precise to be useful. No reason to expect the Caldwell unit will do any better - it can’t read far enough to actually matter.
The new LabRadar LX is pretty awesome - flip a coin between it and the Garmin. The Caldwell - if it ever actually hits shelves (this isn’t a new unit, they’ve been advertising it for a few years, but haven’t yet actually produced them) - deserves to die. Too big, and too late to the party for its price point. Exact same performance they promised from the original Velociradar and in the same exact case/size, but $200 more expensive…
If I can say anything favorable about the LR-LX over the Garmin is the fact LabRadar is allegedly backing its use when mounted to the rifle - which Garmin explicitly says voids their warranty. The Garmin is a lot lighter than the LR-LX, so it would be less likely to damage itself or mounting points in recoil, but it’s not covered for on-rifle use (I fired mine during 3 stages at a PRS match last wknd, plus during the zero/chrony pre-match check… onboard is handy).
I’m not certain whether either of them will survive supermagnum recoil, which is KINDA the application which motivated me to buy the Garmin in the first place… time will tell…
