Does this guy really need a gun? Really?

Fortunately, the Second Amendment never mentions "need" as a qualifier. :)

What we "need" is more people like him--good ambassadors for the 2A.

I am confused here...

Does he not need a gun because he is as swole as a linebacker?

What good will all that muscle do if he is confronted by an armed criminal?

He needs a gun.

Yes. He needs a gun. I think everyone needs a gun. Especially a guy like that who has probably been that target of someone with something to prove more than once. He is well spoken and a fine ambassador.

I am pro-2A ofcourse, and not trying to say it discriminates based on true need. But that said, I was pointing out the irony. Come-on, we gotta admit the truth sometimes. I mean don't you all think even a guy with a gun will think twice about attacking this dude? Human nature is not necessarily logical, and believe it or not, his size and physical fitness alone is very likely to deter any armed thug. :D

I wouldn't even think twice if I saw that man open carrying. He looks and sounds very professional and educated. I am not 100% sure about open carry laws in Michigan, but I think anybody who feels the need to legally carry a weapon should do just that.

His physical size will probably deter a huge percentage of would-be attackers.
The gun on his hip will deter about 90% of that remainder.
The leftover few still interested in taking him on are probably too high/crazy/full of machismo to care. And by the end of the encounter, they'll almost certainly wish they had cared.

Let me tell ya about my sister's boyfriend.

His nickname was HE_MAN ... because he just looked like him.

Got shot with a .32 cal in the abdomen.

His life was never the same with all the medical complications.

Mugged while working at a pizza shop.

Being big is not the same as being skilled in hand to hand combat. Indeed, most "big" guys are rather limited in experience, people often choosing not to fight them because of the perceived superiority with regards to size.

Further, being big doesn't stop bullets or blades.

You assume that all attackers are thinking logically. An individual on drugs, or who is mentally ill, or just doesn't care what happens to him wouldn't necessarily care a whit about the guy's bulk.

And, as others have already pointed out - mass doesn't equal fighting ability.

Huge muscles don't stop metal projectiles traveling at fast speeds very well. So if he wants a gun he should be able to have one.

This reminds me I need to start working out again.

Doesn't matter whether or not he "needs" a gun. I don't "need" a gun.

I want one and it is my right just as it is his.

Just as it is yours.

If you don't understand that and aren't willing to stand up for his right then you really don't get it.

In my opinion, his sheer bulk makes him a target to someone that knows what they're looking for. He doesn't move well, his range of motion is inhibited by the size of his muscles. Sure he's (probably) strong, but even the strongest man has most of the same weak points... Blind spots (how far do you think he can turn his head?), knees, insteps, I probably wouldn't try to come at him from the front that's for sure, but yeah it's not unreasonable for someone like him to carry. He's at least as much of a target as anyone else.

+1 for the "Wisconsin Crusher"

Just because his got muscle does not mean hes going be bullet proof.

"...Seems to me just his mere presence will..." Lose the idea that one's physical size matters. It's how you carry yourself that matters. Looking like a victim will make you one. Look like you own the World means the criminals will leave you alone.
Nik is very likely a very good guy. He's just questioning the WI law that say no concealed carry. Open carry is ok, so he does.
That video is anti-firearm too. More than half was about how bad the WI open carry law is.
"...His physical size will probably deter a huge percentage of would-be attackers..." Not as much as how you carry yourself. There are a lot of idiots who will try him on because of his size too. Poor guy needs one of us beer drinking layabouts to help him not get hurt.

Not the best example of guy who needs a gun! Just thought it sounds odd him saying he needs it for protection ha ha. Sometimes you have to see the irony in life.

I'll relate a little life history to you. I was a returning vet in 1973, from our cool summer camp in SE Asia. I was, at that time, down to 5'7' after entering the military at 5'71/2", and all of 125 pounds. I had a bad attitude with the world, and was still frankly pissed about my welcome back to the world.

I sought out young men that looked just like this guy, to make them extremely angry, and induce them into a fight, by whatever means necessary. Don't judge me, you were not there. I lost some fights, I won some. You learn not to judge the dog in the fight, and judge the fight in the dog.

So, in your opinion this man does not deserve the right to defend himself without going to violent interaction? That my friend is your issue. I'll not claim my experience as the best time of my life, and I regret my aggressive behavior to this day. I was mad as all hell, and someone was going to take my anger at being treated in a manner I felt was wrong. Had one of these guys carried a handgun and reacted by taking my idiot ass out, he'd have been justified.

I can only thank God that he looks out for idiots and damned fools, or I'd not be here to post this. This guy may well wear his heart on his sleeve. Saying he's not threatened by a violent person any more than a 98 pound weakling is the epitome of improper judgment based on appearances. This man deserves the right to defend himself without being struck just as much as a 95 pound female does.
