Powder Valley is now listing a HAZMAT fee of 27.50 for hazardous packages. Graf's is still $25, but that may increase if the cost is due to UPS/FedEx.

We can all hope but I doubt powder will be dropped as hazmat. Seriously, Why would UPS and FedEx want to do away with their rice bowl ? It would be the same thing as doing away with required 2nd day air for handgun deliveries for us non FFLs.

Considering they have high labor costs entailed with doing the paperwork, it would save them money NOT to have to bother. 2nd air is required by them to deter theft possibilities -nothing more

Although I hate to see hazmat fees go up I'll still buy from PV in bulk or in group buys like I usually do because of there powder and primer prices. About any powder is $5 to $7 per lb. and primers $7 to $10 or more local than PV's prices.

I guess I'm fortunate to have a local store that sells powder and primers within about $2 of PV's prices. For example
Hodgden Varget, 8lb:

Sportsman's Warehouse in Utah has better prices when you figure in shipping and hazmat fees. W748 8 pounds at Sportsman's is $149.00, PV is $133.50 + $27.50 hazmat + at least $10.00 shipping. I generally don't have the money or need to buy enough powder for free hazmat or spread out the cost of the hazmat to make the cheaper prices work. I don't understand how any of these company's sell much powder and primers because if you do the math most local stores will beat mail order out just figuring goods and shipping, hazmat is just the kicker.
At least in my parts, I find it difficult, if not impossible to find primer and powders that I use at the local gun stores. Gander Mountain and Bass Pro Shops are real proud of their powder and primers.
Even gun shows can be spotty.
Mail order provides an alternative, and is competitive to localprices. I find about $200 worth makes the hazmat fee reasonable when spread across the order. Shipping costs are offset by lack of sales tax. When the government figures out how to charge sales tax on internet orders, that advantage may go away.
The only gun shop here that stocks any powder only has it by the pound and he's pretty proud of it. I have a couple of friends that shoot and reload and we're pretty good about getting together whenever one of us places an order to split the HAZMAT fees and shipping. We usually max out a single HAZMAT fee on weight. Works out to less than $1 per pound and less than tht for shipping. When you consider that PV is $7 a pound cheaper than local, even ordering a single 8# jug for myself comes out cheaper.

If you have a Sportsmans Warehouse nearby you really have little need to pay the high hazmat fees for powder or primers. I haven't bought either from another outlet in years and bullets by quantities of a 100 or less are about the same. If I am buying bulk pistol or rifle I go online.
PV is cheaper then the local Wal-mart even with shipping & hazmat. Local gun shops that have powder are crazy. Not haveing to pay tax or even gas is just the kicker.
As far as internet orders vs retail go I ordered 3 USB cables & a phone case from China a little over a week ago & with shipping they totaled ~$4.50. I went to wal-mart & looked at the same stuff that totaled over $45 before tax. I'll mail order & save the tax & gas so when I'm already out I can buy dinner for my wife & kids.

I but through my local gun club - the distributor delivers on their own truck - no hazmat, no added shipping - the club makes a dollar or two, and I save half again of what it would cost me at gander - win-win all the way around
I used to think it was ridiculous when the hazmat fee was $4.50 ( i also complained when gasoline approached a dollar a gallon) and when hazmat was that cheap if you mailed in an order and forgot to include the fee it would be billed after shipment. When it went up to five bucks i remember thinking that the fee "was getting outta hand!" It was still around four or five bucks in the early nineties and when it sky rocketed i actually recall folks blaming slick willie for it.

PV has IMR TRAIL BOSS 5LB for sale now $85.50. Locally I pay $23 for 9 oz - thats over a 50% savings.
CCI primers on sale now not the regular $30 but $24 per K. Sounds like I am going to put in an order and stock up.
