Chrome barrel for AK

Guys, I have recently purchased a Waffen Werks AK-74. It seems to be a very nice rifle. CL American made barrel. I have no idea who makes this barrel.

Fit and finish + the Bulgarian furniture on this rifle is outstanding. No-Dak Spud reciever with KG Guncoat.

What concerns me is the "American" made barrel. Does anyone know who the manufacturer is? If so, I would love to know.

Barrel is currently 100%. However, for future reference...Does anyone know where a true Com-Bloc cold hammer forged, CL barrel may be purchased?

I realize, that at this point I am getting the cart way ahead of the horse. Having said this: Guys this rifle is super nice for the price. I am just afraid that the U.S. made barrel (with slidefire, ok, sorry but I really like it, FUN factor) will not hold up.

When and if the barrel wears out, I would like to have a suitable Com-Bloc CL barrel to replace it with. Bulgarian, Romanian, E. German, etc., does not matter to me. Where can I buy these barrels?

If you can afford the ammo to wear out that barrel the money to buy a new AK should not be an issue IMO. But, if you must have the surplus CL barrel in reserve, forum for sale sections are probably the best place to keep an eye out for a barrel or kit.
 
Chrome mainly aids in cleaning and resistance to corrosive ammo. Nothing fundamentally wrong with non-crhomed barrels.

Correct but in the case of the AK74 he will most likely wear it out on surplus corrosive 7N6.

Note that the OP could get around 6000 rounds for what his rifle cost.

Wafer Werks rifles come with chrome lined barrels.

I've often seen the sentimate that US AK barrels are no good, buy I have to question it myself. There are several different companies out there assembling AK's with new US made barrels, and little seems to be known on exactly where they all come from or what specs they are made to. I believe Century was on of the first to use American made barrels, and if that's where the bad rap started from I wouldn't be looking down upon every other US AK barrel because of it.

If you really want to know the source of the barrel, shoot Waffen Werks an email and see if they respond.
 
It ought to take a lot more than 6000 rounds to wear that barrel out, if it is anything close to a GI quality chrome barrel.

In addition to being easier to clean and resisting corrosion, chrome lining also resists erosion and gives a barrel a much longer life than plain old chrome moly. Generally about 3 times as long. It is definitely the way to go if you plan on giving the rifle a high round count.

You should take that rifle to a carbine class or something. It would probably be a lot more fun and educational way to blow thousands of rounds than spray and pray with a slidefire.

I am saying that the OP can wear out good barrel in about 3 grand (25k rounds). His guns cost around $700. Its not like buying a $150 AR barrel and swapping it at home.
