A guy just listed a pile of parts from what I have to assume is a cosmetically rough pistol. The parts I have been looking for for 3 years are on gunbroker. First bid in SHOULD be the winner. It's as much as I have bid on complete rough guns just to get the parts. I would link it here...but you jokers would probably drive the price up. My wife thinks I'm on something for being so giddy, but I have the cash and I'm fed up with losing auctions. She doesn't understand (or care) so I had to share my excitement. I'm bidding on another rough gun too just for good measure.

LOL! Would we do that????? Best of luck getting your parts, i know the feeling, i spent months lookimg for someone with a two pice ejector for a win 101 never did find it. Ended up retrofitting a single, which isnt generationally correct but does work.

You should have posted what you were looking for first. That way one of us using the part you need for a door stop would trade you something for it. ;)

Buying rough guns for parts is still a gamble. If the outside is rough, chances are so is the inside. Mind you, if the price is right, why not?

Good luck with it.
I won't post auctions on forums for the very reason you stated. You might be screwing yourself.
Years ago I helped with a car collector forum and we banned the practice of posting auctions.

Yeah, its sad that it comes to that. Here Id generally expect some one chime in with an, I have that part if you need it, rather than trying to steal an auction or bidding it up to be a jerk. Still better safe than, looking....and looking........and...well still looking.

I already asked here a couple times. The part has been out of stock since the 60s...when my grandparents were my age. And each time I think I strike gold...doesn't happen. I'm pretty sure this one is wrapped up, 3 years in the making.

Auction over. I'm now the proud owner of a Smith & Wesson 38 Safety Hammerless cylinder stop. 22 bucks after shipping. My oldest baby is ready to come out of retirement once the new parts get installed.

And since I have gotten so familiar with it I plan to do a video on detail tear down and reassembly.

Turns out unobtainable parts are still unobtainable. Got the part in and it generally fits, but I think it's from a different generation. I could make it work with a fair amount of part modification which I just won't do. I want it right, even if it is just rigging a spring into place.

Doh! so close!
I just did that with a citori stock, thought i got a deal and i letting is way off.

Revolver cylinder stops generally require fitting to the individual firearm-- a too large stop can be carefully filed or stoned down to fit, a too small one is not so good.

Too short is the issue. I could TIG it but I just don't have the heart to do it. I don't want to permanently alter a rare part if my alteration is nothing more than a halfway rig.

I once filed a cylinder stop from a block of steel for a Llama Comanche .22LR revolver when I could not get one from any parts source.

West Kentucky,
Try calling Jack First in S.D. they might have the part or can fabricate certain small parts. They are high but useful as a last resort. They do not list their parts online. You have to buy their three volume parts listing or call them with what you need.

A friend of mine was making parts for a Rem 12. he couldn't buy it so per our training, he's making 5! Why five? Another friend said that if there's a demand, sell them on Ebay.

I thought about doing that as a sideline for certain non-essential parts such as screws etc. for odd milsurps and the like. Got worried about running afoul of ITAR regulations so dropped the idea until the legal issues get sorted out.

But if the rare part doesn't work...and adding a wee bit of metal via TIG to the end, then reshaping to a new contour will make it work....I'd call that a good thing. Think of it as a rescue rather then an alteration.:)

Heck, I spent a year getting all the stuff to build a TC Renegade when I could have bought one for the same money. The chase.....the chase, that's what is fun.

Papa G, can I cite you and use that as an excuse to my wife about my hobby of restoring old milsurps?

So modify this part and get the gun shooting while you continue to look for the correct part. Keeps your love affair for shooting the baby along with the quest for the right part(s)
