Welp, I bought a stripped lower

It’s not strictly a mail-spec trigger, but the PSA Enhanced Polished Trigger was surprisingly crisp compared to a standard trigger.

I use a little jeweler's rouge on the friction surfaces of my milspec triggers and they smooth right out after a couple hundred rounds. Dont want to use anything more aggressive than that because they are only surface-hardened.

I may upgrade my barrel and BCG.
The latter is a Midwest Industries and supposedly decent. Barrel is M4 profile, carbine gas. I might go midlength but dont want heavier.

Trudging in mud or snow for yotes is bad enough w a lighter rifle.

That’s how I started, be careful! Have two now and working on a third. I took my time gathering parts. Hunted for sales and close outs on quality parts. I’ve ended changing a few parts and the old part go to another build.

The struggle is real. I picked up several AM and RRA stripped lowers for a very low price recently. Not sure what I will do with them, but they were too cheap and available to pass up. Don’t know what the future holds.

i watch the parts sales sections on forums and buy when new and like new parts come up for sale at a good price.

I usually buy one or two Anderson stripped lowers when they hit the market for ~$39 each. Couple of years ago they were like $29 per on sale so I snatched a few up then. Been a while since I’ve seen them at that price…

So far, it seems set to get delivered on Thursday, so I won't be able to get to it till Friday afternoon since I have class at 6-7:30 Tuesday/Thursday and there's the yearly coin show Friday morning (Sorry Dr. Romero, skipping class).

It doesn't seem like that kit I bought has a rear sight, and my buddy can't seem to find the one he said he'd send. I don't suppose any of you have one you'd be interested in selling?

Build a house. Assemble an AR. Time spent ordering parts then spend 40 minutes putting lower together. Some of that time looking for that darn spring. Then it's over. Did several in the mil surplus kit days. Fun for a few minutes

Ill look in my junk box, might have something.....

This has been considered the industry standard for years-
Pros- simple to use, deploys quickly, low profile to fit under optics, folds flat and springs back if it hits something hard
Cons- expensive for what it is. Ther ARE lots of fakes on Amazon, best to buy direct from Magpul or PSA/Buds.

UTG has come a long way since the 90's. They are made in Taiwan and high quality.
Got his one on Amazon for about half the price of the Magpul-
Pros- steel, very positive clicks, takes up less rail space, excellent value.
Cons- heavy, a bit tall when folded, locks in place so it will break if it hits something hard enough- but its hella stout so it would have to be a major impact.

Awesome, please let me know!

When it comes to mags, are there any brands to avoid?

Ya, Promags are kinda iffy- although Ive got one of their roller-follower units that works well enough. USA- brand are dreadful garbage. I've also had bad luck with C-Products steel mags, though the aluminum ones Ive got work fine.

Magpul magazines are very inexpensive, tough, lightweight, and reliable. Their only downside is that the polymer feed-lips can warp if they are left loaded over a long period of time. To mitigate this, they are supplied with dust-covers which also depress the follower a bit to take pressure off the lips. Maybe not a perfect solution, but it works and they are so cheap you can stockpile enough to simply toss any that develop problems.

Hexmag, Fab Defense, and Hera Arms all make decent polymer mags similar to the Magpul.

Lancer makes an excellent hybrid magazine with a polymer body and steel feed lips to correct the shortcomings of the Magpul, though they are kinda pricey.

Brownells (among others) makes a very good, inexpensive, lightweight, GI-style aluminum magazine- though all aluminum mags are prone to damaged lips if dropped, stepped on, or whacked.

ASC makes good, inexpensive, and light stainless steel-bodied GI-style mags. So does C-Products, but as I mentioned above, mine had badly formed feed lips.....😠

H&K makes a heavy duty (and heavy) steel magazine, but they are known to be sand/dirt-sensitive and not so easy to clean. They are also $$$$. The Koreans have been importing large numbers of HK knockoff magazines lately that are stamped from slightly thinner steel and are lighter. They are also very inexpensive and work well if kept clean.

These are all the brands I've personally tried. There are many others.

I bought 3 of the Magpul Pmags. I guess I just need a rear sight ( thinking about that UTG one you mentioned,I like that it's metal), ammo , and patience

Looked in my spare bits bin and all I found was a pair of no-name 45deg. offset sights that wont do you any good with a fixed front post, lol.
Ya, the UTG sight is pretty nice for the money. 👍

I can recommend the MBUS rear sights. Also, I really like shooting with an A4 carry handle sight. The elevation drum is very nice, even though my hand loads don’t match the yardage marks on the drum. There are a couple of versions without the handle part, just the sight and drum.

There is also apparently a mil-spec BUIS with a fairly narrow stem that also has the elevation adjustment.

I have a stripped upper and lower that’s just been sitting for years because I cannot make up my mind on which direction to go with it.
The way to fix this is to buy multiple lowers so you can make each one go in a different direction. Problem solved.

Well, today's delivery day. Since I put in overtime at CML and made significant progress on my analog computer, I'm gonna spend my morning doing homework for my one class and skip it to wait for my delivery. I'm gonna start building it as soon as I get it!

@NIGHTLORD40K ,thank you for looking for a spare rear sight. Even if you didn't find one, the effort is still immensely appreciated.

I have a Primary Arms MD-RBGII that came with my Keltec Sub-2000. I wasn't a huge fan of it, but maybe I'll like it on my AR instead.
