Will the Eotech 552.a65 work well on a Springfield Scout? I know it was designed for the 5.56 AR.

It will work on anything with a sufficiently long enough Picatinny/Weaver rail. There are no ranging marks, so there's no worry about compensation between 7.62 and 5.56.

Yeah, but the height over bore is just excessive. An Aimpoint Micro would be more ideal.

Nice looking rifle, 4thpoint.

No, it will not work well. Like you said, the EOTech is designed for a flat top AR, and will sit way too high to get a proper position on the M1A.

A much better setup is to replace the factory scout mount with an Ultimak mount, which sits lower, and then mount either a 30mm Aimpoint in a low ring, or an Aimpoint Micro in a low picatinny base. Either one will give you co-witness with the iron sights.

You can remove the spacer between the Aimpoint M4 and the base which will lower it approximately a 1/4" inch. You won't be able to co-witness the iron sights but then that not want a red dot is for anyway. If you want a scope which will give you both CQB and magnification. Then get yourself a M1A side mounted scope base and look at Leupold tactical series. I just pickup a Mk6 1-6x20 ($2000-$2200) for my Loaded and love its versatility in this capacity. You can get a Mk4 for approximately half($).
