Plastic case with foam interior = moisture magnet and rust generator.
Store your guns in a safe with a lightbulb or goldenrod running to raise the dew point. Use synthetic Bore-store bags that wick away moisture.
Most effective anti-rust ingredients (besides thick grease) are Eezox...
Uno Mas MAS
One more vote for the MAS. Good balance. Very good sights for a field rifle. Cool (and effective) rifle grenade attachment. Rugged, forged receivers. Sturdy, inexpensive magazines.
Most famously, a dead simple direct impingement gas system that requires a fraction of the...
Four Best in Class
I have four cartridges worth mentioning.
17 Mach 2.
It shoots at 2150 fps--nearly twice what a 22LR will do. Ammo is less than HALF the cost now of 17 HMR. Even very cheap 17 HM2 rifles will do MOA pretty easy at 100 yards. Yes the 17 HMR has more velocity, but in terms...
Thought you guys might be interested in this item. Quite often the question comes up as to how accurate long-range rifles can be. Well a new 600-yard world record was shot this weekend in Sacramento: 0.579" for five shots. That makes the group, center to center, the size of the figurehead on a...
Why so many mediocre rifles?
You asked for feedback. Here's my take on your collection.
You Own
Ruger_______10/22______________.22LR
--Fun gun, but mediocre accuracy and funky factory trigger. Many owners spend buckets of cash accessorizing these things and still end up with a clunker. I'd...
17 Mach2 at 50 yards.
This was shot from benchrest at 50 yards. with a Hall-actioned 17 Mach 2 with Shilen barrel. The ammo works best if you sort for run-out with a Nielson concentricity gauge. Groups at 100 range from 0.4 to 0.8.
This group is about 0.1" center to center. :D
Rifle...
Del Fatti's your man...
Del Fatti leather. The guy has some of the best holsters for p7s made:
Outside wasteband. Very stable:
Inside waistband, belt on top.
Outside waistband, quickrelease.
LPHTL model--low ride, very well engineered.
This is my Favorite, the...
All my recent handgun purchases have been revolvers, mostly S&W Performance center. I would purchase older Wheelguns but, sadly, I live in CA and most of the good older stuff is verbotten here.
#1 With Wheelguns, you don't have to pick up brass
#2 With Wheelguns you can reload for absolute...
I could see it for use in a small safe where space may be a premium. Stacked vertically it would protect the outside of the gun without using as much room as a small Doskocil handgun case.
It would also reduce the risk of a bad-guy/druggy using your guns against you if he somehow gets in to...
Eezox is a truly outstanding anti-corrosion element (one of the few that will actually displace water).

Average lube at best. I prefer grease on the rails of a 1911 or Sig and Prolix Xtra-T pure lube on the contact points of a Glock.
#1 stop using the stainless scouring pad in the pad. Really, Really bad idea.
#2 Don't pour brake cleaner down the bore. It won't help with copper.
#3 Suggest you start with GMTEC (Top engine cleaner). Use this, with brushes to remove carbon and non-metallic crud.
#4 After a few...
6BR
Buy a basic Savage or Remington ADL and put a custom 6BR barrel on it. The 6BR will give you unsurpassed accuracy from 100-700 yards with low recoil, superb brass, easy load development. About the only thing that can beat it at 100-200 yards is a full-tilt 6ppc benchrest run, but a 1:10 or...
I have a Marlin .357, and two Uberti Italian clones, one an 1866 "Yellowboy" (brass receiver and all), and a 24" model 1873. The 1866 and 1873 both employ a toggle action. This is much, much smoother than ANYthing Marlin makes. The '66 and '73 also use a vertical moving shuttle that allows a...
Stock Painters
Here is a good step-by-step article on stock painting (both color and clear-coat):
http://www.6mmbr.com/stockpainting.html
If the procedures seem a bit beyond your abilities, Mike Ricklefs, the author of the article paints stocks for $170-$200 depending on options.
Gas Rings--the One-Piece Solution
All my ARs have colt bolt assemblies. Have had no problem with new std. gas rings. However, I also prefer to fit my bolts with one-piece (spiral) McFarland gas rings.
One less thing to go wrong (you don't have to worry about the indexing of the rings)...
Yep, carrier key should remain tight and staked.
In future, to avoid problems:
When you strip down your bolt and bolt carrier, make sure you remove the extractor and ejector. Look into the recesses of both. A little bit of gunky. greasy lube and/or a tiny piece of brass shaving in either...
Original A1. $5-10 at gunshows.
The adjustables rattle, have a poor cheek weld, and lots of hooks and angles to catch on things. If you're not wearing body armor and climbing in and out of tank hatches, the A1 is all you need. Use the money saved on a nice optic or better barrel.
Re 17 Rimfires -- you may be surprised
Those who predict the demise of the 17 rimfires may be surprised. The 17 HMR is very healthy and is the preferred round (for 20-150 yards) for many serious varminters. Talk to the pro guides who run varmint safaris, particularly the squirrel shooters--they...
There is not just a link to a review page. On page two there is an active window with the full text of reviews by Lyman owners. We also interviewed three Lyman owners who've complained about the zero drift alarm going off frequently and they were advised by Lyman to hit the re-zero button every...
