    Question re: 870P order #'s

Not to put too fine a point on this, Nematocyst 870 (I loved the definition for your "handle"!), rear sights on handguns can be like tits on a boar hog if the target is up close and big (read man-sized) and the shooting is fast and furious. When this kind of shooting is involved, focusing on the...

    Question re: 870P order #'s

Nematocyst 870, you've sort of made clear why you have an aversion to Ghost Sights (GS), at least at this point in time, but I have a different take on the question. GS are every bit as quick on the target as a simple bead if you employ them correctly, plus they offer a reference point at the...

    Mannlicher Stocks????

As I see it, the only valid reason to have a mannlicher stock is because you might like the looks of it. There seems to be little middle ground on this: some hate 'em and some love 'em. I happen to fall in the latter category. I have two: a little Steyr Mannlicher Zephyer .22 rimfire and a Ruger...

Buying first handgun: Sig P226 or HK USP?

HK or SIG? Cadillac or Lincoln? I'd opt for the Rolls Royce: CZ 97! :)

    642 Practice yesterday Revolver malfunction

In 30 years of qualifying for my LE job, the only malfunction I ever experienced that tied my gun up (I carried a S&W 6906 the last few years) was, of all things, a sweet S&W Model 13. The revolver cycled slower and slower on double taps until the cylinder refused to cycle anymore. I kept...

Found something cool when taking apart shotgun

This incident brings to mind something similar that happened many years ago. Back in the early seventies, a dear friend of mine (Gaylord) worked with me in law enforcement. At the time, he was assigned the job of tearing down and cleaning riot guns in the armory (said shotguns included Rem. 870s...

    The 642 club

642 Club The (so far :) ) Page Seven Club! I've been toting a 640 for the past year and have been rationalizing the over-weight dilemma (you know, it's not reallythat heavy; heavier guns are easier to control, etc.). But it really is a mite heavy for pocket/ankle carry (especially for its...

    Pump action rifles...my thought..

I like the old 760 (the ones made in the 50's with the grooved fore-end and the checkered-less pistol grip). The 760 is a strong rifle but lacks the camming leverage of a bolt-action so be sure you full-length resize your reloads and run each round through the action before embarking on any...

You can all keep your J Frames--I'll take the six gun.

IMO, there's only one valid reason for the existence of the J frame: comfortable concealment of an adequately powered, 99.9% reliable handgun. And that's a very good reason to have one. Nothing else really comes close to meeting this criteria as well.

    Holster for a S&W 642

I've had good luck with the inexpensive Uncle Mike's pocket holster. It fits my 640 perfectly. stays in my pocket when the gun is drawn and cost less than twelve bucks. What's not to like?

S&W Model 52-2: Need opinions of this gun(Good or bad?)?

A grand old pistol that is one of the last firearms made by S&W that reflects their comittment to making the best product possible. The 52 was S&W's effort to build a Bullseye pistol with the express purpose of kicking every other contenders butt on the firing line...and they succeeded! A...

    3rd generation S&W's, Opinions

I've had my 6906 for quite a few years now, much of the time on duty in my holster or at the range qualifying as a LEO. Without a doubt, the most reliable pistol I've ever owned ( and, trust me, I've owned quite a few).

    Opinions on Marlin 39A Please.

I believe that the Marlin 39 is the oldest firearm in America to be continuously produced in the same design, predating even the Win. 94.I sure like the one I have and you won't find many 39 owners who don't. It is a little heavy for some applications and the trigger could stand to be a lot...

    Winchester 88?

Yes, there has never been a stronger, factory produced lever rifle made than the Win.88, but one every bit as strong was the long discontinued Sako Finnwolf lever. While in the USAF, stationed in Guam in 1963, I ordered an 88 in .358 cal. from the "states". Unfortunately, it arrived with a...

    HK 2000 Questions

The HK 2000 is a pistol I am considering for concealed carry. I'd appreciate anyone sharing their experience and opinion with me about this gun. I'm especially interested in hearing about the new, compact version: the P2000SK. THANX!

    Para Carry or CZ variant?

I am considering the purchase of either a Para Carry or one of the following CZ models: 2075RAMI, P01, 75Compact or 75DCompact. I plan on using it as a concealed carry piece. Size(smaller) is more important to me than weight but, of course, both are important factors. Cal. is not a huge issue...

    S&W 6906..9mm....

S&W 6906 Before retiring from law enforcement in 1998, I carried the 6906 daily for several years, qualifying with it bi-annually. I found this pistol to be the most reliable piece I've ever used (and I own and shoot a couple of 1911s, aSig 2340 and an HK USP 40). It is not partial to...

I really want a Hi-Power but is it worth getting rid of something to get it?

Gun Trades Some people really love trading for different guns. There are some aquaintances I have who apparently get "bored" with their latest acquistion after a relatively short period of time and pretty soon are trading for the latest glint in their eye. They just seem to enjoy the trading and...

    RUST: Please advise...

Rust Protection A GoldenRod "heat-maker" has been suggested as a way to keep rust at bay. A cheaper solution is to install a lightbulb fixture in your safe and keep a "long-life 40 to 60 watt bulb burning. While serving in the USAF on Guam in the early sixties, we kept a lightbulb burning in...

    Concealibility: 5-shot or 6-shot snubby?

Best Snubbie For? DHart: Looks like you have found the answer-own all three! But if you could only choose one and you opted for a J-Frame because you wanted maximum concealability, the choice becomes do you prioritize ease of carry or optimum shootability? Everything being equal, no...
