The HK 2000 is a pistol I am considering for concealed carry. I'd appreciate anyone sharing their experience and opinion with me about this gun. I'm especially interested in hearing about the new, compact version: the P2000SK. THANX!

I don't know anything about that pistol specifically but if it feels good in your hand I wouldn't hesitate to buy H&K.

The LEM trigger takes some getting used to. It doesn't quite feel like anything else out there. With my P7 I can make 1 big hole at 10 yards, but with my P2000sk the groups spread out to around 6-7". I'm thinking I just need more practice with that LEM trigger.

See if you can try it to make sure you like it before you buy. $800 is alot of money for a carry gun that you might not like.

You can get the P2000 with a standard DA/SA trigger setup, but I really don't like where they put the decocker. I'd go LEM. My dad has 2 of them (the P2000 and P2000SK) and positively love the trigger. The LEM P2000 is next on my list, but it will be a while.

It's my issued duty piece. For me it points and balances really well. Since I'm more used to all-metal guns it does kick a bit more in my opinion but it's still a sweet shooter. My only complaint is that the trigger travels a looooooooooooooong way... a bit too long even for a DAO trigger IMO.

I guess they call it a safety feature... after all the P 2000 was designed around German police specs.

The compact size and the rounded contours make it a great gun for CCW. If I had to buy a gun for precisely that purpose the P 2000 would probably be it.

Is that a DAO version you carry, or the LEM version.

Also, as you're in Deutschland, I'd be interested to hear what you're using for duty ammuntion.

Thanks

Well, according to the HK homepage they offer two traditional DA/SA models, one DAO model (35 newton trigger pull) and three CDA (Combat Defence Action) models which are probably the ones that are marketed as LEM versions in the states.

They come with a trigger pull of 20, 27.5 and 32.5 N. We are issued the V2 with a 32.5 N trigger. To me it feels like a looooong heavy SA trigger which is fine with me on a carry gun.

Our duty ammunition is RUAG Ammotec Action 4. It's a 6.1 grams hollowpoint made of solid brass with a rounded plastic tip that is pushed inside the bullet upon impact. It expands to 12 - 13 mm. This type of ammunition has only been issued for a few years now in Germany; when I first got into LE in 1999 we still used conventional FMJ.

I wrote a review of the P2000SK for Women & Gunswww.womenshooters.com magazine not too long ago.

I like the size, small enough to carry every day. At 21 ounces, it's not too heavy for carry but has got a good solid feel in the hand.

It's fully ambidextrous. Not "ambidextrous with adaptations," not "mostly ambidextrous." It's really and truly suitable for either right or left handed shooting without any adaptations at all. That's rare in a bottom feeder.

The changeable grip panels let you easily fit the gun to different sized hands, rare for a polymer frame.

The LEM trigger was light & smooth and had a clean break. I really enjoyed pulling that trigger and thought it was just about the nicest feature on the gun.

Comes with 3-dot sights, with the rear adjustable for windage.

In terms of accuracy, the gun was getting 3-inch groups off the bench at 25 yards -- that's excellent for the size class and intended use. Follow up shots were very, very fast with the short reset.

Didn't have any malfs and the thing just reeked of quality.

Easy to take down, easy to put back together.

Only beef I had with it was the mag release. I had some problems with not being able to release it with either one finger or one thumb, and finally had to do a kind of pinching motion on the release to get it to go. In all fairness, that was probably just a new spring problem, but it was annoying. Others who shot the gun didn't have much difficulty with it, so maybe it was just me.

That's about it. Overall, great gun.
