    Need a new pocket knife

SM, My sincerest apologies sir. Only wish we could have sent you some more Whitworth rifles back in early 1862. I know you “miss some mentors”, however have you considered that some of us consider you a mentor. To be honest I wasn’t aware that the law allowed up to 3 inch blades. Opens the...

    Need a new pocket knife

Nematocyst, sorry I should have said why. British law says that unless you have good reason i.e. you’re a fisherman who is at that time fishing, we can only carry a pocket knife that is none locking and a blade length of less than 2.5 inches. While I do like Spyderco knives and have four of...

    Need a new pocket knife

Funny thing, the law does say no locks, but most pocket knives sold over here do have locks. I normally carry a Spyderco ladybug on my key ring and the cricket in my pocket. I have worked off and on with the Police for the last 10 years and never had a problem. I think it’s one of those...

    Custom kubaton

Go international with the pen I say, I would be very interested over here in the UK. Picked up a plastic pen that is supposed to double as a Kubaton a few years back, trouble is it looks more like a Kubaton with a concealed pen.

    Need a new pocket knife

My everyday carry knife is a Spyderco cricket (black handle not the stainless steel model) and I have just discovered that they have discontinued this model. Unfortunately most of my friends work on the idea of “if it’s shine you meant me to have it”. I have therefore decided to “retire” this...

    How “Prepared” Are You…Really?

The major problem for me, if I had a firearm and was in a good position to take a shot, would be identifying the target. For instance you’re out doing some last minute Christmas shopping; you hear multiple shots and screaming. Ten meters to your front is a lone figure taking aim over a guard...

    my new hideaway knife

Might be wrong here, but I think the whole point of the nail is; 1. It looks like pocket junk so no explaining why you’re carrying it. 2. Can be “binned” and replaced in each country without problems at airports etc. 3. It’s very cheap as in probably free.

Is there any advantage to an ankle carried knife?

Ankle carry works around here when you dress correctly. All you need is a good Kilt and nobody see’s your knife hidden in plain view.

Tactics for Zombies, Goblins, Ghouls, Vampires and Werewolves

Ok I go with Pax on this one, when I was a kid a thick blanket work in keeping me safe, if I couldn’t see the monster it didn’t exist. Now if we take this to its logical conclusion, then throw the blanket over the monsters head, and it will think it doesn’t exist causing it to have a nervous...

    Black Powder For Self Defense?

I have been looking at BP revolvers as a home defence weapon as it is the ONLY pistol I can legally own in the UK. Not perfect but beats all other options that I have. I figure six rounds from a BP revolver at the length of my stairs should be effective deterrent until help arrives.

    Mills Bombs

Re: M1 Garand, I have pictures somewhere of Royal Marines with issued US cold weather gear and M1 Garand’s, green berets and 44 pat webbing. The pictures are from a book about Royal Marines in Korea. The reason we don’t change weapons and equipment for the lasts model is “if it isn’t broke...

Fixed blade concealed in vehicle legality?

Three striking points, I figure it has to rate with a Kubaton.

Fixed blade concealed in vehicle legality?

Ever considered a “life hammer”? I have one clipped too the centre console in case I have to break a window or cut a seatbelt off, of course I would never consider using it as a weapon as that would make it illegal in the UK. Noticed that a police van had one fix to his dashboard the other day.

    Non-weapon objects for SD

The unbreakable umbrella looks interesting, but I’m not sure I can justify the price to “she who should be obeyed”. For the benefit of our colonial cousins the retail price here in the UK is nearly $200, better to spend the cash on good quality training.

    How to legally stay alive,UK

It’s been said many times in other postings on here, but basically it’s what you have between your ears not in your hands that matters most. I travel every week to major cities in the whole of the UK as part of my job. Because I’m a Northumbrian (Boarder County) I refuse to pay for...

    Sad event to learn from

A very sad incident to consider. I don’t have the full story only what I have managed to piece together from different newspaper reports, therefore my apologies if I have miss reported any of this. Early on Monday morning a police officer was fatally stabbed in Bedfordshire (UK). By the...

    Protection/family dog

I grew up on a farm. Dad was a shepered so we always had dogs ranging from pups to retired around the house. Those were border collies. When I did a “real job” I was a dog handler for the Government, working GSD and a rotty. These days I have a GSD type bitch, her grandmother played around...
