New Guy On The Other Side of the Counter...

Ask a lot of good questions before you start offering advice. My biggest pet peave is an employee that assumes I don't know anything and automatically tries to sell me a Glock 19.

How long does it take for skills to degrade?

Before an elbow injury I used to play a lot of golf. I could take breaks for weeks at a time between playing and not lose much as far as skill goes. I was told that it was because golf is all about fundamentals of the game--set-up, stance, grip--and large muscle memory. I suppose the same...

Have You "Taken Care" of a Neighbor or Friend?

a co-worker of mine whose wife has a Sig Mosquito that only likes CCI Mini Mags. I happened to be sitting on about 1000 rounds of that ammo. I shoot .22 in my 10/22 which will eat just about anything. So I traded him the CCI for some lesser bulk ammo. I was glad to do it.

    Share your "panic" stories

My LGS is pretty small, usually stocking a a couple dozen rifles. Swung by today to say hi and they only had a couple of .22s left on the rack. Asked the owner and he said they sold out almost immediately and couldn't find anything through their distributors. They still had a decent selection of...

    ruger 10/22

I had some problems with under-powered bulk ammo not cycling. But with Mini-Mags it's 100%.

Want to get a new pistol in 22

I have a Ruger LCR in .22 and it's a fun little gun. It's got a 1 7/8 inch barrel so it's no target pistol but it works well as a training aid for other concealed carry sized revolvers. Of course, like with any gun, you can get pretty good with some practice. I can stay inside a playing card at...

kabar or ontario? im a short drive from either one

Bought my dad the full sized USMC KA-BAR. Came in the mail yesterday and I have been playing around with it. What a great knife, at least as far as I can tell without getting it out into the field. We backpack together a lot so we'll have ample opportunity to put this one through its paces. I...

$100 and under hard use EDC folder help

I recently discover the knife line-up over at 5.11Tactical. I bought three for less than $100. The are AUS8 steel and came razor sharp out of the box. They have some interesting designs if you are into something a little less traditional. They do use a liner lock but they lock up tight. You can...

    carrying the S&W 442

I carry my LCR in a Galco Stinger belt holster at 4:00. I can wear it under a t-shirt and it conceals just fine. Has a nice snug fit.

    Change in a Generation

I recently received this in an email from my father-in-law. I was shocked at how things had changed since he was a high school student and thought you all might get something out of it as well. *** I graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School, Washington D.C. in 1964. Every entering 10th...

If you could only have one gun, what would it be?

Now that's an intelligent answer to the question. Well thought through! I'm with you--I would go with some form of Ruger revolver. Maybe SP101 in .357?

If you could only have TWO guns, what would they be?

Ruger SP101 Marlin 1894C Both chambered in .357 so can shoot either that load or .38 for lighter work--always been a sucker for the .38 special. . The SP 101 can be a ccw but handles the .357 load just fine. So I get two guns and only have to worry about stockpiling one or two calibers.

Have You Hugged (or carried) Your Revolver Today?

Ruger LCR .22 all day every day.

    Pick only 3 pistols

Ruger LCR .22 Ruger LCR .38 Ruger LCR .357 I love the LCR platform (can you tell) and I like only having to know and practice with 1 battery of arms. So .22 for practice, .38 for carry and .357 for HD.

“Natural” skill and your limiting factor to becoming a better shot?

I put time as my primary limitation. My wife had a stroke last year at the age of 38 and I am now her primary caregiver. Used to be the money was the major limitation until I got into .22. Now I can shoot quite a bit of ammo without blowing the budget and improve my fundamentals.

Holy cow.. what a different world.

My father in law was just saying today that when he was in high school in D.C. the school had a firing range in the basement where the shooting team would practice. He would regularly walk from home to school and back carrying his rifle and ammunition. Said it was common at all the D.C. schools...
