how short can i go for trap?

Shooting a short barreled gun puts you behing the 8 Ball right off the get go. Distance has nothing to due with barrel length. A longer sight plane, and extra weight most definatley do. If you ever do any serious Trap shooting you will find that even a light shotgun becomes a handicap mostly...

    are side-by-sides becoming extinct

Most new shooters cant appreciate a SXS , mostly because they never shot one and have been weened on todays O/U's, pumps. or auto's. Not their fault! The SXS today has become a high priced specialy item, because of trending. Your desire to own a SXS with fixed chokes at a reasonable price...

    Hawken rifle questions?

To answer your question on drift sights. Hawkens(originals ) had adjustable sights........but not as you know them today. The originals had a blade front sight driftable and rear V or buckhorn. To adjust the front you had to file the sight down and drift it either way (L or R) The rear sight...

    Clay shooters.....Will it ever stop?

What is with factory shell prices? Everytime you turn around the price goes up again. Is it lead or gold packed into those shells? The best prices in this region for 12Ga. target loads is $60. a case at present. That case jumped from $50. in 3 months. I've considered reloading many times ...

Who makes reasonably priced, reliable over/unders?

Had to jump in .........Have both ....cheap and not so cheap. IMO , it all depends on what you want to use the gun for and how much it will be shot. Cheap Example: Mossberg silver reserve....very limited use on the skeet range and maybe a bird hunt once a year. I've put maybe 1500 rounds...

    A Nice O/U

For $1400 in todays shotgun world your not likely to find the un-common gun. You will however find some pretty nice common ones. I personally like Brownings, but (I think Armed metioned) the Winchester select energy (IMO) is one of the best buys on the market today and if you look carefully you...

why not remove the breech plug?

Way back when......I removed a breech on a hooked breech rifle (never want to do it again) Reason dry ball, unable to get out with puller or powder. Took a 24 inch pipe wrench and about a 6ft lever and when it broke loose it sounded like a shot. Got the ball out, aligned the plug with sucess...

    Looking for a Long Rifle

Macmac......chambers is near gettysburg. As for your choices........Next to a long rifle the Jaeger would be my choice , although i'd opt for something in 54 cal..........also consider a fowler smoothbore..lots of options with those . If we only had an unlimited budget........

    Looking for a Long Rifle

Macmac.........The gun pictured is a TVM (tenn. Valley Mfg.) Pa. Iron mounted long rifle. It was a semi custom built. When I originally bought this rifle it had a barrel legnth of 42". I further customized it by cutting the barrel length to 36" reshaping the frontal area and re-installing the...

    Looking for a Long Rifle

I'll 2nd Dixon's (that's why I asked where you lived). I imagine Dixon's in Berks Co. is quite a ways from you though? I owned a Great Plains (Lyman) and took my 1st BP deer with it. But it is hawken style and it sounds you want a long rifle. I now shoot a 36" .50 cal Pa. rifle and for me...
