Letters to a Gunwriter - Humour article from 1971 Gun Digest

The following are taken from a humorous article in the 1971 issue of Gun Digest. Written anonomously by the fictitious “Jack Hack” editor of “Shooting & Blasting”, it is a collection of letters allegedly written to Mr Hack by readers. Although everything is tongue in cheek, you know there’s a...

    CZ 550 Bolt question

I looked at a CZ 550 American in .30-06 today. Great fit and finish on the outside, and the bore looked good. However, the operation of the bolt was very rough - it took some real muscle to operate - anyone else have this problem?

    CZ/Huglu Bob white 28 gauge

Decided to take the $700 plunge and get one of the Turkish (Huglu) made 28 gauge side x sides imported by CZ; picked it up today. For the price, I'm very impressed. As most of you know, the receiver is scaled to the gauge. The wood is fitted better than some more expensive guns I own, and...

    5 .45's

I really like .22's and .38's best, followed by .44's. I'm not sure how I've ended up with 5 .45's?! In .45 acp there's a Heritage model 17 with Fishpaw stag grips, a model 1955 shipped in early 1956 (my favorite to shoot), a 125th anniversary model in .45 "long" Colt, and ya'll know what...

    Ruger SxS

I was at "The Gun Rack" in Kernersville NC today, and saw my first Ruger SxS in the ferrous flesh; 20 ga, stainless receiver, blued barrels, trigger guard, and lever. I was amazed - since it was a Ruger product, I had expected it to be somewhat clunky, but it was very petite and classy...

    S&w 1000

I picked up a like new S&W 100 20 gauge, 26" barrel, Improved Cylinder today. It was too cheap not to! I was a little suprised at how well made it was, and it seems to handle very well - maybe some clays in my very near future. It had some nice touches - gas piston assembly instructions...

    S&W 1000 manual

I'm not sure why, but I've just purchased an S&W 1000 20 gauge over the net. I already have an 11-87 20 gauge, but what the hey. I'm going to order a new piston shock buffer, but I was wondering if any of you fine human beings might know of a manual for this gun on-line. or a place I could...

    How'd I do? What's it worth?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My cousin Fred found an old revolver in an abandoned house he was tearing up for materials; since he owed me $200.00 for posting bail for him a couple of months ago, he offered it to me for repayment. I was hoping...
